When times are good it’s easy to feel like entrepreneurship is the only path for you, but what about the times when your hit with multiple crises at once? We wondered if all entrepreneurs have moments when they wonder whether they should have gone with (or stuck to) a more standard job where they worked for someone else.

This is actually a thought that I think comes up for me ~once a year, and it’s ten times out of ten associated with me going through a phase of imposter syndrome and/or burn out. This is something I talk with my fellow wedding industry professional friends about a lot, and I think this industry in particular can be really challenging. Don’t get me wrong: This industry is full of wonderful, Read more>>

I’ve been a photographer for 10 years now, and I’m still happy with my decision to go out on my own. The truth is, the work is always changing—and that’s part of what makes it so interesting. I’ll never forget the first time I had to figure out how to make my own website, or how hard it was to get clients to pay me in full (and on time). Read more>>

Sometimes, I do wish I work a regular job because there is a lot of responsibility being an entrepreneur. When you work a regular job, you just clock in and clock out; you don’t carry the problems with you home. A great example is when my North Carolina salon’s HVAC system went out twice during the height of the pandemic. I couldn’t afford, not to fix it. I needed my clients and staff to be comfortable while in the salon. Employees don’t have to worry about things like that. Read more>>

I’m proud to be an entrepreneur and business owner. There were challenging times, especially coming out of the pandemic, where I’ve wondered if I should go back to working for someone. I would think to myself “I have a BA degree, a great resume, tons of experience, I could get a job no problem.” In a way, it’s easier to have a routine job, tasks laid out and a steady paycheck. There is less to think about. Read more>>

I ask myself this question often. Would I be happy with a regular job? I consider this question on days like today when the weather is going to turn and I will have kids home from school. As a small sustainable business owner, I am extremely happy with the path I have chosen to take. Going the creative route with careers is always a scary and difficult path to choose, as all career choices are. Going the business owner route means you decide your own tasks and routine. It gives you creative freedom which can both grow and hinder you. Staying motivated and on task is a daily hurdle, you need to have a goal set and be extremely dedicated to achieving them. I love owning my own pet care business. It is a wonderful job where my co-wokers are of the four legged type. Whenever I go to visit a client, they are so happy to see me and are full of joy. Animals live in the moment and it teaches me to be present in the moment too. I worked in corporate America prior to starting Petmeisters Pet Sitting and it was a much different world. I love my new job and the active lifestyle that it provides. Read more>>

Great question! I am much happier as a business owner as opposed to when I worked at a company for another owner. I do work more hours, some weeks a lot more hours however, I’m working for myself. After almost 7 years now I don’t have the thought of going back so to speak, I’m not sure now that I could even go back to having a “regular job” That doesn’t mean to say that it’s always easy, there have been long rough months, difficulty in getting clients weekly especially during covid times.
