When times are good it’s easy to feel like entrepreneurship is the only path for you, but what about the times when your hit with multiple crises at once? We wondered if all entrepreneurs have moments when they wonder whether they should have gone with (or stuck to) a more standard job where they worked for someone else.

I usually enjoy being a business owner, but sometimes, the thought of having a regular job crosses my mind. It isn’t a full-blown desire or anything, but it has definitely been a serious thought. Read more>>

Without a doubt, I would not give up being a business owner for any corporate or “regular” job. Life is too short to perform a job or monotonous task that is not our passion. We should be striving every day to do what we love and be in a constant state of learning that skill or trade. Sure, there have been times when one month has been better than the next. Or you are out there heels to the ground making connections and closing deals. What other profession or job would have allowed me to take a full two months over the summer and just live in another state? Read more>>

As a business owner, I possess flexibility, control, and my own exposure. In a regular job, you have to conform to a schedule, which sometimes can change. You have to wear certain attire and do specific things per that job criteria. Everything you do around it has to be based around them because you’ve agreed to terms and conditions under this company or employer. I always sit and think about having a regular job. ALWAYS. I do have other ways of income but not a full career-based 9 to 5. Read more>>

After I finished high school, society caused me to believe that I was meant to graduate college and pursue a normal 9-5 job. During this time I was adamant about nurturing my inner child and started California Sol in 2019 during my sophomore year in college. I started making earrings & necklaces that made me think of my hometown of San Diego, California. Read more>>

I think it’s very normal for small business owners and creatives to jump back and forth often between fulfillment, contentment, joy in their work, and overall happiness with their decision to work for themselves; and burnout, lack of stability, stress, and the loss of feeling like you’re part of a definitive workplace culture. Wow, this question!? WHAT WE THINK: If I own my own business I will roll into work when I want to or I won’t if I don’t want to. I will sleep late. I will let everybody else do the work and I can just reap the rewards while living the good life. I will TRAVEL and have lots of money to travel. I can go wherever I want, whenever I want, and nobody can tell me what to do because I am the boss. Owning my own business would be AWESOME. Read more>>

I am very happy as a business owner! I bake cookies all day. What’s there to not be happy about? However, I know that life would probably be easier if I worked for someone else. Time off is rare. There is no such thing as “paid vacation time”. If I don’t work, I don’t get paid. The hours are long. I work from home, so there’s no home life/work life balance. The work is always there, right in front of me. Read more>>

I really am happy working for myself, but success or failure is completely dependent on one person……me. Sometimes I do think about how easy it would be to work for a big corporation where I’m not responsible for every task that keeps the business running. It would also be easier because they have hoards of customers coming in constantly and you get paid time off and health insurance. However, I’ve always been more interested in freedom than money, and I think that being self employed provides me with far more freedom than my corporate counterparts. Read more>>

I am 100% happier being a business owner! Certainly it is not always as easy as it seems as it requires every little ounce of effort in order to have a successful business. I did have the thought a lot of times of just dropping everything and going back to having a regular job, especially when things used to get difficult! It was like wishing I could clock out and having someone else finish the tasks for me. Read more>>

I am absolutely happier as a business owner! In 2016, I decided to resign as an educator because I needed to be in a healthier environment. As a former educator, I think about how grateful I am that I was running my business as COVID-19 impacted us all. Although I truly enjoyed my career in education, the amount of stress added to the lives of educators is unreal. My business has allowed me a great deal more peace so returning to a “regular” job isn’t a thought that crosses my mind. Read more>>

I truly am SO much happier as a business owner, and working for myself. I truly get to create the inclusive, welcoming environment I had longed for. Being able to cultivate the type of business and partnerships that also give back, and make an impact, is really important. I often think about just having a regular job. It’s a LOT of work being a solo-preneur, essentially performing all of the roles in a business. Read more>>

My name is TaKyah Harris. I am a 17 year old baker/cake decorator. Being in school and running a small business can be stressful sometimes. I’m still young. I’m in my senior year of high school and preparing myself for college. Even with all that going on; starting my business was the best decision ever. My life has been so much better since I’ve started my business. I launched my business October 6th, 2020. In the mist of a pandemic it still was the best decision. With everything going on baking was my outlet. Read more>>
