Young people don’t need their parents’ advisor, or some other old white man in a suit peddling products. They need financial advice from someone who is approachable, knowledgeable, and not going to talk down to them. So many “financial gurus” out there right now are focused almost exclusively on numbers, investment returns, and selling products. What they’re not focused on is in actually helping regular people achieve their goals and navigate the emotional side of money. “Personal finance” is more personal than it is finance; you have to actually listen to someone and hear where they are uniquely struggling in order to help them live their most abundant life. Corporate America in general, not just in my industry, lacks the support of women, specifically working moms. The United States is far behind the rest of the world in offering mandatory paid parental leave. Working moms in this country go back to work too soon because they need the financial support or because they lack the job security that is too big of a risk to forego. Women are also subject to discrimination on a regular basis for being of childbearing age or being married. We are constantly having to work harder than our male colleagues for raises, promotions, or at the bare minimum, equal pay. Women make amazing leaders. We are compassionate, loyal, and great listeners. Inspiration can strike when I’m out in nature, at a museum or even just sitting at the local cafe people watching. It would be great if corporate companies recognized this and allowed designers to get away from their desks more. Read more>>

As a photographer that has worked as an In-House creative for some of the largest multi-billion dollar corporations, I have for sure seen a lot that I necessarily do not agree with when it comes to In-House Studios. Many of these corporations that do decide to create a photo/video studio have very little knowledge as to what goes into creating these marketing investments. Because there is a lack of knowledge as to what goes into making a photo or video, the expectancy is to large to maintain. There were weeks I was working 60+ hours shooting images, creating gifs, retouching, producing, and conceptualizing while being a salaried employee and still feeling like I was never creating quality work.
