I’ve worked in Corporate America as well as the beauty industry and what they both get wrong is that they forget that they are working with other humans. While working in Corporate America as well as working in a well known salon, I realize that they do not understand the needs of the people who work for them. People aren’t machines. I want to say first of all I do not own the business, I just run the shop. My father and grandfather started it when they moved down to Florida 30+ years ago and they sold it a few years back. When it comes to the card business more so than the comics the biggest misconception nowadays is that the majority of people purchasing cards are loaded with money. The vast majority of people who keep the industry alive are your average Americans who work a 9-5 and still love to collect their favorite player. There are absolutely plenty of people with more disposable income that buy the higher end products and drop boats load of cash every time they are in and we appreciate them very much. My business creates branded video content for small to midsize businesses. With the rise of AI generated content, corporations are trying to remove the human element from the creative process. I see it in little ways, such as AI written scripts, and in big ways, such as fully AI created videos. While I think AI can be a very useful tool, it is not a creator. If you want consumers to invest in your products or services, then you need to invest in your marketing. Audiences can tell an inauthentic message when they see one. People want to buy from brands that they feel connected to. Creating authentic content is a way to connect. This is one place that I think small businesses can actually have an advantage over large corporations.Videos featuring the business owner on screen is a great way for consumers to feel like they know the brand.
