I love the idea of helping brides create the wedding of their dreams. So building a venue on my land was not a difficult decision. With the support and help of my family, we created a beautiful open concept venue. We started this build at the beginning of 2020 right before the pandemic. This helped us to plan for situations like COVID. We put large bi-fold glass doors on both sides of the venue so that it could be opened up to become a pavilion or be closed to shelter events from the elements. Read more>>

At The Family Griot (TFG), it is our mission to assist and educate fellow storytellers in curating authentic identities for their brands. We are here to modernize the legacy of traditional West-African storytellers, or Griots. We aim to be a North Star for entrepreneurs, creatives, educators, and all who’ve been relegated to the margins of society and are seeking pathways to convey their oral histories. It is our deepest desire to provide meaningful support that promotes advocacy, impact, and leaves a legacy that outlives the present generation. Read more>>

I was recently visiting Ireland over New Years this past month. There was a fantastic museum I stopped in while walking around the city of Kilkenny one morning called, The Medieval Mile Museum. There were a lot of incredible archaeological finds. One of the most interesting finds (to me) had been 3 different sets of bones that they found. All of which belonged to who they believe was a middle aged woman, a young woman, and a child. Read more>>

My hope is that what I’ve done daily for over 2 decades in the beauty industry will be remembered for this one thing; that a woman’s beauty comes from the inside, out. The media, society, and the world has created a facade of a woman. We are real women. We are created differently. We all have flaws. We all have assets. It took years for me to realize my worth and value. I sold myself short time and time again. Read more>>

I want to inspire people by my work. I’m ok with my legacy being a quiet one, I don’t want the fame of celebrity. I want those who see my work to see the time and attention to detail I’ve put in my photographs or illustrations. I’d hope to touch and click on the imagination of some and the inspiration of others. Here in the US, we take good vision for granted. Eyeglasses are more of a fashion accessory than a medical necessity. As a child I received my first pair of glasses at 7 years old. My life would have been completely different, if not a whole lot shorter, had it not been for this 700-year-old invention. For 35% of the world, access to eyeglasses is ubiquitous. Read more>>

Growing up in big family in a small town has its challenges, and yes it’s what you think. Being one of the youngest of your siblings and many cousins leaves you to either follow what they are already did or try to step out on your own to be creative.
