When we go on short trips we often know exactly what we expect at the end, but when it comes to our lives and careers we’ve seen far too often we shy away from really thinking through where we expect to be at the end and what we hope our legacy will be. So, we wanted to encourage conversations on the topic of legacy and you’ll find highlights from our conversation from some wonderful members of the business and creative community below.

I hope my legacy will be that I inspired Black families and children to travel the world. I want them to avoid believing in stereotypes about how others live and travel to destinations near and far to see for themselves. I hope to change curriculum in schools, by inspiring teachers to share more diverse stories with students. With my freelance writing, I seek to help the Black population become more successful in life by telling stories that keep them informed. Long story short, I hope to make a difference in changing the narrative of stories shared about Black families. Read more>>

“Legacy.” For such a small word, it has such a big meaning. It’s similar to Houston—big city, small town. This huge city is very large and constantly moving and shaking, but still, known for our networking, we work together to make sure we get our goals met for ourselves and for our community. I’ve always been a very strong, persistent person—someone who accomplishes what they set their mind to—but when I’ve been in situations where I’ve had to muster everything I could just to make it, Houston’s legacy of survival coincidently grew with me in how to thrive. I hope my legacy is one that my daughter is proud of, that women can look up to and one that honors “mi patria”, Puerto Rico and all Latinxs that have had to leave their homes and start over somewhere new. I have so many dreams and goals that I am so eager to complete, and while the journey is part of the process I can be comfortable knowing that I do everything honestly, to the best of my abilities and with the best intentions at heart. One of the lessons you learn when becoming a coach is to start at the end with a client. This helps define and align the client’s goals with what they ultimately want to achieve. I use the same in my personal life, particularly when it comes to legacy. I want my legacy to be about giving it my all. I’d like for people to remember me and be inspired by my willingness to give my all to my life. I want to be remembered as fearless, faith-filled, and all-in! Read more>>

I absolutely love being an entrepreneur here in Austin. It provides so much opportunity for growth in the industry I love. I hope everyone that buys my product or employees that work with me know how much they mean to me. I love being able to give back to people as much as I can, whether it be donating my services to help fundraiser for charities or helping guide an employee become successful by building their skill levels. Being in the hospitality design realm, it is incredibly satisfying to experience the spaces and places we help make, and share the enjoyment with the other patrons. Being a fairly “non-spotlight” type person (probably just awkward!), I’d rather observe people talking about how they love the place than being praised for saying “I did this!” Being in San Diego, we have our hands on a lot of brewery tasting rooms/facilities, so it’s very cool to be amongst the end users taking advantage of a place to be comfortable in. I hope my legacy will be the encouragement I give to others. Pursing your dreams is very tuff! It is easy to get a 9 to 5 job, you just fill out an app and if you are hired you show up everyday. However, pursing your dream means you will have to make countless sacrifices. In the end, with consistency, lessons learned from failures, a little support and planning effectively you will soon Win! Every artistic pursuit I engage in in one way or another revolves around creating experiences of beauty for communities where it may not be expected. I have performed in retirement communities, nature centers, homeless shelters, concert halls, churches and rolling down the street. I hope to pass on the hope that beauty of the highest quality is accessible to all if they are open to being vulnerable, to seeing the world through another person’s perspective. I hope to pierce through any stone that ossifies the hearts of those who refuse to let the light of beauty cast its rays their direction. Any bit of this would be legacy enough. Read more>>

As a photographer/filmmaker working predominately in the not-for-profit worlds of the environment, health, science, housing and culture I spend a lot of time photographing people that aren’t used to being photographed. It is always my goal to make them feel comfortable in front of my camera and to make the experience fun, uplifting and memorable. To help make it memorable I always offer to share the images with my subjects so they can keep them in their family photo archive. Read more>>

Legacy: A gift by will (especially of money or other personal property) what you leave behind: loving service I pray my legacy will be one of respect, integrity, success, financial security, innovation/one of the firsts, and of someone who dared to dream. I always think of my children first, how do I want to inspire them? I have four sons and a daughter and when I think about legacy I feel that showing them that you can do, be, have and create whatever it is you wish to do, be, have, and create…even experience is everything! I’ve always done more than one thing in my careers. Read more>>

One can only hope they will have a positive impact on other lives. Being only 25 years old, I have not thought so deep into what I want my legacy to be. A legacy is defined as the richness of the individual’s life, including what that person accomplished and the impact he or she had on people and places. I want clients to think about Essenciaevents and remember how happy and easy we made their special day. I want them to look back at pictures and to see how beautiful and well-put-together everything was. Read more>>
