When we go on short trips we often know exactly what we expect at the end, but when it comes to our lives and careers we’ve seen far too often we shy away from really thinking through where we expect to be at the end and what we hope our legacy will be. So, we wanted to encourage conversations on the topic of legacy and you’ll find highlights from our conversation from some wonderful members of the business and creative community below.

I usually don’t like talking about leaving a legacy because when I’m long gone, the only thing I leave behind are my 3 beautiful children. That will also be my legacy, but the impact I want to leave is that I did everything I could to advocate for the Autism community and that I did everything and more to make an impact on somebody’s life, even if it was just only on one person. Because that’s all it takes in life is to inspire one person in life. Read more>>

I believe that we all want to be remembered for something or to be known as more than merely ordinary. We aspire to create a path for generations to come to follow in our footsteps and live out their own dreams, creating their own legacies. My legacy is in my purpose. And I believe that my purpose here on this earth is to be a leader; a trailblazer. I want to change the dynamic of the beauty industry. For decades, men, Caucasian men, have been the leaders in the cosmetic industry creating products for women. Read more>>

There is a moment that happens when someone looks at a photo I’ve taken of them and, they not only like it, but they feel like it truly captures who they are. Usually I can feel it when I take the photo, but I never get confirmation until I see how they react. These moments aren’t just about photos, but they are about making people feel seen and understood. It is about showing them how they look to others. The best of them. We are so often our worst critics that being able to give people a window into themselves from the perspective of someone else is a gift and the legacy that I want to leave behind. Read more>>

My hopes towards my legacy is deeply rooted in my two daughters. Everything I do as a parent relates to who I hope they become as they grow in to adults. Starting a business for beautiful representation started with wanting my oldest daughter to see herself in simple things that she plays with. This business is in her namesake & she is our 6 year old co-founder. Our legacy is wrapped up together because we are building something bigger than ourselves that we hope will last longer than us also. That’s the dream and we are working to make our dream a legacy for all to enjoy. Read more>>

This is an interesting topic. I have not thought much about what I want my legacy to be but here I am wondering, ultimately, what that would look like. To have a legacy means what am I hoping people will remember or know me for? When I think back on what my path as a stand-up comedian has been, I see myself as someone who lives on the outskirts or fringe of what is typical for comedy in a southern city within a primarily male dominated industry. Honesty. Integrity. Trustworthiness. These are elements that can be elusive if you don’t protect and honor them. I can speak further about how news and media have compromised these once bedrock traits, and how I have worked diligently to preserve them. Read more>>

As an artist, I would want my legacy to be my art (obviously), and as a person a sense of kindness and thoughtfulness. What’s more, I think an artist’s personality is shown through their art in subtle ways. So if I can leave behind a body of work that offers the same level of thought I try to put into my interactions with people then I can say I had a good run of things. However, I also don’t see the point in limiting myself to that mindset. Art can do a lot of different things and to hope for just one of them would be silly. Read more>>

I’m still in the midst of creating my legacy. I often feel as if I haven’t even begun, so I’ll look to the parts of my character I’m proud of. I hope that I leave behind as I’ve carried with me the inspiration to heal. I hope people can learn to alchemize their pain into something beautiful, something meaningful. I hope that I’ve stirred motivation in others to face adversity head on and grow from it. And I hope people learn to love and love deeply with great fervor. Read more>>

I hope my Legacy will be like my late father, Pastor C. D. Murray I never met a stranger! Unfortunately, I recently lost both of my parents within the last three years. However, as I recall my father funeral service I remember a group of men arguing who was his best friend. My father and I was really close and as a child we would visit the community and my dad would talked to everyone he encountered and as we walked away from these conversations it was evident he deposit something into the person spirit. I hope that my legacy will be one of community. I have many people that have supported me throughout my different ventures and I have supported them with there’s. I don’t want to be selfish with my abilities, I want to grow by helping others. For example, I am currently collaborating with my friend Drew Gonzalez to create a bag. The process of screen print the bags by hand and working with Drew to bring out vision to life is more valuable to me than making the profit from the bags. Read more>>

My hopes for my legacy aren’s ones that pertain to myself but rather experiences and memories shared in my space. I launched Fine Folk with the hopes of being a staple in my local food scene and while we aim to make money for those involved in the business, I would love for the lasting impact to revolve around stories shared at Fine Folk. That being said, I strive to harbor the same attitude and environment for those on staff. When people talk about their time spent working with us, I hope they are filled with positively genuine feelings. Read more>>

Upon getting divorced in 2011, I thought my life was over. I was certain I would never be happy again. But ultimately I decided to pick myself up and rebuild my life. I would like my legacy to be that I loved my family. I was someone who always gave people the benefit of the doubt and treated them with respect. That I understood the importance of my employees in relationship to the success of my business. That I showed up everyday be and did the best I could. Read more>>

I hope that through my books I touch many hearts and make a difference in their lives. I also hope I can help people in any way I can. I try to write each of my books on something different that is sometimes hard to explain to children. (ex. Alzheimer’s disease, Depression, etc.) With my books, I let children know that it is okay to have feelings, it is okay to feel scared or sad, and most importantly, it is okay to talk to someone when you feel this way.
