When we go on short trips we often know exactly what we expect at the end, but when it comes to our lives and careers we’ve seen far too often we shy away from really thinking through where we expect to be at the end and what we hope our legacy will be. So, we wanted to encourage conversations on the topic of legacy and you’ll find highlights from our conversation from some wonderful members of the business and creative community below.

I genuinely hope my images can be looked at for generations. I have always seen myself as more of a historian than an artist. Though as time goes on, that changes more and more each day. I want to create things that make people feel real emotions. Things my loved ones can be proud of. Read more>>

I hope my legacy will be an example of community advocacy, representation, and service. Back in January of this year, I was in a writing residency in Mexico on a generous scholarship where we attended craft talks, participated in workshop groups, and had free time to work on our creative projects. In one of those craft talks, an author remarked that they saw writing as nothing less than an act of service, and that is a belief I continue to carry. Read more>>

My idea of what legacy I will leave has evolved over the years. It has moved from something tangible to more of a mindset of limitless possibility. I hope that through my example and my work, I show any one (especially young Black girls), that everything is possible and we are more than enough to accomplish it. Also, having the courage shift gears and to do what speaks to your heart even if it doesn’t fit the narrative of what society believes is one of the most important qualities to have in life. My legacy will be a collection of things. First thing, me being a chain breaker, changing the trajectory of my family’s history. Changing the narrative on finances, ownership, and family. Secondly, I would hope my legacy is centered around pushing the limits, not shrinking yourself; walking into any room with confidence, shaking the tables intentionally. I aim to reclaim womanhood, not to societies standard, but embracing all of the parts it means to be me and making room to be just that in every aspect of my life. Read more>>

In the words of Sophia from the movie “The Color Purple” I can most assuredly say “All my life I had to fight.” I have faced many storms in my life but I discovered the courage to find strength in the storms. My grandfather always lived by the words, “If I can help somebody as I travel along, then my living will not be in vain.” I strive to live by those words and empower people to overcome obstacles. My legacy is not about awards, it’s about realizing that the greatest reward comes from serving others. I believe if serving is below you then leading is beyond you. Read more>>

It is my sincere hope that when I no longer exist witht the living that I am known for these things. 1. Survivor – It is well documented that I am a survivor of trauma but I want people to not stay with the survivor part of my story and rather look at what happened next. My trauma through dedicated therapy, family support and prayer, I used as a tool in my daily life. I strive to be authentic, I strive to be vulnerable, I strive to really try to meet people where they are and because of what I have survived my hope is that others know that you can come back from anything as long as you have breath. I came back from financial struggle, self-esteem struggles and more. Read more>>

I hope that I can be individual who is remembered for always protecting their art and creations no matter what. In addition to always following my artistic gut, whether things work or not. A true artist, a true creative knows how difficult it is to be themselves unapologetically in this society. Creatives are often torn down, laughed at, and bullied into following typical societal standards. Many creatives get worn out to the point where they actually cave in and try to act like a normal, stable individuals. Read more>>

My generation was raised to stick with a company your entire career. I worked for 20 years in the restaurant industry before I had the courage to make a change to more creative pursuits. Due to my love of travel I became a travel agent before starting a family in my late thirties. As our daughter got older I worked in a wine shop for several years. My love and knowledge of wine expanded and it was a “light-bulb” moment that candle making became a career. Read more>>

I was faced with this very question in the Spring of 2021, as part of my own self-reflection, after I faced a life-threatening medical event. I was already waffling on what to do with my 10-year Human Resources career, where I was feeling tumultuous burnout, but kept pushing to excel upward. Then, when faced with the reality that I could have not lived more life, I knew exactly what I wanted my legacy to be, and that is: to choose joy in all endeavors, celebrating and serving others, and doing it all through my creative passions. I hope that others feel inspired and encouraged by my story to forge their own path, no matter your age or circumstances. Read more>>

It is my Greatest hope that if after I’ve fulfilled this life and one was to ask about me, one word would come to mind for most and that would be SUCCESSFUL! I have a hold a burden for the next generation. I hope that people will be inspired to study my blueprint; be resilient, creative, be a survivor and stay in the favor of God even when you’re doing ungodly shit. I was an alcoholic/drug user and criminal for a long time. But thats not all I was like most people that find themselves in this predicament. I was always intelligent, perceptive, resourceful and intuitive so I thrived in almost anything I focused on. My mission statement is to live free, die old and live forever. In my mind, this mission will lead to whatever my legacy will be. In 2021 I was speaking at a funeral of a young man who was very close to me, and I spoke on the idea of legacy. I said that we all should strive to leave behind what we can and hope that it is good because our legacy will mostly be determined by what we leave and to whom we leave it. In my personal life, I’m a husband and father and these roles are an integral part of my legacy. Read more>>

When thinking about my life and what I want/hope to be my legacy, I think about my two careers, being a pro athlete and also a creative filmmaker. Having two full-time careers is massively tough on my physical and mental well-being but when looking at what I want out of life, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I started my professional athletics career playing futsal in 2019. I dropped out of college to pursue a career in futsal and at the time it was extremely scary not knowing if it would pan out or be worth it. Read more>>

I hope that my legacy will be one of inspiration. I am a black girl from Blytheville, AR, a small rural town of little opportunity. I’ve pivoted, I’ve taken risks, I’ve played it safe, I’ve broken out of my shell , I’ve discovered myself, I am a relentless go getter. I hope that my life is my legacy; that my choices and my path is an inspiration to others to go after their dreams and don’t stop until they reach them. And when they reach them, I hope they realize their power and dream even bigger. I just hope to touch lives in an inspirational way, I want people to think of me and feel empowered. Read more>>
