Internships and apprenticeships, when done right, give interns and apprentices life long lessons. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, these opportunities aren’t accessible to many and so we wanted to invite folks who have had these experiences to share some of the lessons they’ve learned.

Apprenticeships/mentorships in my mind are one of the most crucial things for someone in my field of home inspections. For me personally, I reached out to the top inspectors in my area to ask if they would be willing to “take me under their wing” so to speak and teach me the ins and outs of actually working in the field. I ended up training under Scott Mack and to keep a long story short, I truthfully owe every ounce of success to him because he taught me techniques, terminology to use, how to find clients and build a network just to name a few. In 2018 I got a job at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as an Art Therapy Intern. I was working on my Masters and needed a job in the field of Expressive Arts Therapy. I think going to cosmetology school is an important step, a faster way to get one’s license vs. an apprenticeship and I recommend going to a junior college rather than a private school. You’ll receive the same state mandated curriculum to pass your state board for much less money and one is no more ready to start their career without the advanced training one receives as an assistant in a salon.
