We’ve been in such a fast phased and short form media mindset for a long time. I am sensing some change in the air. I feel like people want more slow medias again. Also physical copies of media to own such as books, magazines, CD’s etc. I am sensing people want to take a step back from all the busyness and calm down a bit. I think that the time of celebrity influencers is slowly waning and that smaller social media creators are and will continue to be more important to brand marketing than ever before. Audiences are begging for authenticity from brands and creators, and they are wising up to celebrity endorsements being fake or falsified. Personally, the most successful videos I have made in my career are humorous and relatable, which is a harder tone for a celebrity influencer to accomplish without seeming somewhat fake. When I began my writing journey 15+ years ago, I had every intention of becoming a traditionally published author. That meant securing a literary agent and submitting my manuscript to possible publishers. I landed the agent (twice – as a matter of fact), but we could never stir enough interest from publishers to bring the books to market. Back then, self-publishing wasn’t a viable option as the practice had a bad reputation and wasn’t well respected. After finally publishing two of my books through a small independent publisher that had very little money to devote to marketing efforts, I took a step back and revisited my choices. I realized that over time, the concept of Indie Authors and self-publishing had gradually gained more and more acceptance. Scores of authors were choosing to bypass the whole gatekeeping regime ingrained in the traditional publishing industry to retain creative control and, at the same time, reap the rewards.
