We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffanie Saxton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffanie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. So, we’d appreciate if you could open up about your growth story and the nitty, gritty details that went into scaling up.
Working in the mortgage industry as a 100% commission employee is not for the weak! Being new to the industry at the time, I had to build my credibility amongst my potential referral partners and clients to gain their business. I started off with heavy marketing. I used my own resources to build my brand through video marketing, social media, flyers, campaigns, etc. I started becoming more active in my community by hosting free home buyer seminar events and teaching the importance of building wealth through homeownership. Over the years, I started becoming my own brand. Always leveraging how I am a subject matter expert in mortgages and creating solutions for home buyers in an ongoing changing market. Even after dealing with the pandemic, I had to utilize my online resources even more to capture the consumer. Using those tactics to scale my business and created a large influx of potential leads and referral partners who trust me to get their mortgage done.

I’m a licensed mortgage professional that provides purchase and refinance solutions to residential borrowers. Rather you a first time homebuyer or an investor, I help get you qualified and approved to purchase your home. I got into the industry because I wanted to jump into the entrepreneurship world and be in charge of my own business. I wanted more flexibility of my time and choosing when I want to work. I enjoy the education piece of teaching my clients and agents how to build wealth through real estate. I pride myself of being available, transparent, and delivering excellent communication since this business has so many moving parts. Customer service is a huge part of my business and resembles my overall brand.
Have you ever had to pivot?
During the pandemic, a lot of uncertainty arose in all of us! In my place of business, a lot of different requirements changed that impacted my book of business. For example, the minimum credit scores increased, first time home buyer programs were taken away, excessive overlays we’re in place. These changes made it harder for my clients to qualify and in tandem it effected my real estate agents business as well. I took a leap of faith and decided to move companies to better assist my clients. It was the best decision I made. I was very nervous since I did not know how the pandemic was going to effect the new company that I came on board with nor if the new company was going to make some drastic changes as well. Since joining the new company, accommodating to the operations style, I’ve been able to maximize my business to help so many people become homeowners.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What built my reputation in the industry was a combination of a few things. Being available is probably the number one item that I hear from my referral partners. So many Loan Officers are not picking up the phone or responding to e-mails, and in this industry time is of the essence. Being honest and transparent with all parties tremendously increased of reputation. Not all transactions are smooth, but it’s best to be upfront about the situation and bring a solution to resolve the issue at hand. Also my 5-star reviews from my clients and partners has helped me shine as a Loan Officer within my market because these are real testimonials that I receive on a frequent basis. I’m constantly giving counsel and advice on my social media channels so that people are well equipped with this process and together these items helped build my reputation in a high standard,
