Everyday we meet business owners, professionals, artists and creatives. Photographers, florists, realtors and more. They might come from different backgrounds, work in different industries, have varying personalities, and have vastly different income and educational profiles, but the one thing we’ve seen over and over again is that most people have a unique and special reason for why they do what they do. From a realtor helping families afford the first home he always wished for as a kid to a photographer using her skills to give a voice and face to victims who feel voiceless, we have been blown away by what happens when you just ask people a simple question – why do you do what you do?

I began writing to shed light on women’s innumerable contributions to history that have, for far too long, gone unsung. I remember seeing “women’s history” blurbs in little pink boxes at the end of chapters in my school history texts talking about how hard women’s work was and how they suffered silently behind the scenes as men forged new civilizations. I knew there was more to the story that wasn’t being told, and so I sought it out. We read about the brave Doughboys in WWI, but we don’t hear about the women who ran the phone system when that technology was still in its infancy. We hear about the brave airmen in WWII, but not the Russian female squadron of fighter pilots who became the most decorated in the Red Army. Read more>>

My mission when starting my business was to create an experience like they had never had before. I grew up in the tanning beds are life era, where everyone desired to have that deep dark tan no matter what the cost or damage was to our skin. The typical tanning salon experience when you walked in you were greeted by a girl who didn’t even look like she was old enough to have a job, who pushed super expensive but cheaply made tanning lotions and tried to convince you to purchase a membership. The business model was sell, sell, sell instead of creating a memorable customer experience. Flash forward to now when spray tans are more popular than tanning beds, but they bring on a whole different type of experience. Read more>>

I began my work with Imagination Workshop as an artist leader in 1984. At that time we were serving psychiatric patients with theater workshops. I was doing it for the money (what there was of it). As an under-employed actor and an unemployed writer, those session fees made a difference in paying the bills. A few years later I landed my first television writing gig on a series called Simon & Simon because the producer on that show knew of my work with Imagination Workshop and wanted to set an episode in a psychiatric hospital and felt that I was the one to write it because of my familiarity with that world. My writing career took off, but I stayed with Imagination Workshop even though I no longer needed the money but felt that I owed it something for starting my writing career. Read more>>

My mission started out with No real mission, if anything getting by was the mission. Finishing school and completing a trade at Job Corps. I wasn’t necessarily sure what I wanted to do after getting a education. So I did what most did, find the easiest path to getting to a destination where I’d be ok. I reached for something artistic. I didn’t think I’d like it that much, I mean I always loved art and creating something but honestly I was there because I thought it was easy. However, I found myself intrigued with culinary arts. The creation of different styles and types of food and flavors, it actually came to be a passion. Read more>>

Dowsing, Divining, Water witching, Doodlebugging. These are all terms that have been used to find water underground. As a Fourth Generation Dowser and someone who has been involved with organizational dowsing for over 30 years, I have seen many of the classic, old time dowsers pass away with very few filling their shoes. As a highly proficient dowser, a laser engineer, someone who is excellent at bringing people together and organizing large events, it has become my mission to make sure that the art of dowsing continues on into the future. I have been teaching my cousin’s son, Arthur, to dowse since he was six years old. He is now 11. Hence, he is now a Fifth-Generation water dowser. Read more>>
Georgia Doll

The whole reason I began Georgia Doll Events was to create a safe space for all kinds of love and joy to be celebrated. My wife and I got engaged in 2016, and the moment I began planning our wedding I was faced with discrimination and hatred simply because we are a same-sex couple. This was a new experience for me as I was raised in a very open and accepting home, and had not yet endured the darker side of being a queer person in America. The further I travelled into the wedding industry, the more I learned that this industry was not set up for people like me. Every piece of documentation was strictly “bride and groom” or “his and hers.” Read more>>

Maximize Your Hair Growth mission was birth out of my own desperation to save my hair after experiencing severe postpartum hair loss. In 2019 after giving birth to my second son, I almost died in Childs birth, in order to save my life I had to have an emergency c section, massive blood transfusion and a unplanned hysterectomy. After the 3 surgeries I knew that I would encounter severe postpartum hair loss. Two months later after almost losing my life in child’s birth, I realize I was going through horrible aggressive postpartum hair loss, so I took matters in my own hands. I knew I couldn’t go to any retail stores to get anything that would help me save my hair! So I went to my garden, collected multiple herbs and I created a formula that would help fight severe hair loss. Read more>>

I have a deep passion for my community and a relentless drive to make a positive impact on the lives of homeowners. I have witnessed firsthand the struggles and hardships faced by families grappling with the complexities of home ownership and the fear of foreclosure. Growing up in Georgia, I saw how homeowners, many of whom were hardworking and dedicated individuals, were often left uninformed and overwhelmed by the intricacies of the housing market. I understood that education was the key to empowering these homeowners, providing them with the knowledge and tools they needed to navigate the challenging terrain of owning a home and preventing foreclosures. The story behind my business is motherhood. As a mom of soon-to-be four, we’re sometimes forgotten and left in the dust. Sometimes we forget our worthiness, our beauty, our journey to self-discovery. That is something I hope to change. Dads are always the ones in the photos with our children. When we go to a family event, it’s always mom (us) or family members taking pictures of dad with the kids. Although those memories are important to capture, Mom is just as important. Read more>>

The vision and mission for Run Tri Bike is to show that there is a spot at the starting line for everybody and every body. This isn’t something we say in the hopes of getting advertisers to spend their marketing budget with us, but is something we truly believe. When I started the company, there was very little discussion about athletes from the middle of the pack to the back of the pack. There was less about people that didn’t fit the ‘typical’ representation of an endurance sports athlete. I wanted, and want, to change that narrative. Read more>>

Vegans on the Run is changing the face and taste of vegan food in the community. For so long, the idea and thought about veganism and a vegan diet was on that was not diverse at all. Knowing that authentic Louisiana comfort dishes can be transformed into delicious vegan meals is foreign to many people in our community, especially the urban community. Read more>>
