Every once in a while we have the good fortune of working on a project that we feel truly matters, a project that we’ll still be thinking about years from now. Maybe even something we can imagine telling our grandkids about – surely you’ve had moments like that where something you did in your professional life really mattered?

My passion for travel lead me to create my travel blog, Rizos Travel (Curls Travel). I’ve been traveling and living in different countries since a baby. Coming from a multicultural background, I’ve always been interested in learning about other cultures. Traveling has exposed me to other cultures, dances and foods. I just wanted to share the things I’ve learned through travel with others. There’s so much out there to explore! Read more>>

Being a wife and mother are two very important roles in my life. However, my top role is being a child of God. Recently, I have been working on strengthening my relationship with Him. In doing so, I know I have a responsibility to serve. There are several organizations that I support. However, one that I really love and is very dear to me is Elite Women of Excellence (EWOE). It is a faith-based, youth development organization for teen girls from around metro Atlanta in grades 7-12. Read more>>

The most meaningful project I’ve worked on thus far, is a series I have on my You tube channel/ Instagram called: “Interpret My Words”. It’s a series where my Luvaholics would read multiple poems of mine. Which ever poem resonates with them the most, they would read out loud and tell us how it may apply to their lives. The other part to this series, I love to challenge other artists to read my poems. Which ever one resonates with them, they would interpret it into their form of art. I have collaborated with two different painters, a make-up artist, etc.. Read more>>

As a kid, I was so fascinated by TV Champion and Kasou Taishou, these two Japanese tv shows often showcase the process and creativity in art, crafting and performance. Nowadays, I still watch all kinds of competitions, documentaries and interviews about how things were made and the motivations behind them. Listening to others’ thinking processes and how they choose their path prepared me mentally for how I deal with my life as an artist. Read more>>

It’s a toss-up. Arguably, I would say the project I’m doing right now, what I consider to be my first true album. So much time and thought has been going into it and as each piece falls together, it pushes me to keep going and to not sacrifice any of my artistic integrity. I even had to push back the date, something I was determined for months but even something like that has helped my mindset grow. Read more>>

My most meaningful project to date is the 9’ mural I painted at Foxy’s Proper Pub downtown. Although this one isn’t the most creative since it was simply branding, it has been the most meaningful. This is because it’s the first mural I did after quitting the 9-5 job I was miserable at. I remember the last morning of painting this mural, I was about 15’ up on a scissor lift in the middle of downtown at sunrise, facing a building I had previously done interior design work in. We just released and EP called Unchained that my band and I are very proud of. I have been trying hard over the years to find my sound and to be the person I want to be and I feel like we did a great job of capturing that. We have wanted to release something for a while now and we finally made up our minds on three songs. I’m very happy with the choices we made, and this is definitely what I am most proud of as far as my career goes. Read more>>

As far as the most meaningful project goes, I guess you’d have to ask yourself, what means the most to you? It’s not all about the money. its not all about yourself, it’s about much more. Right now I am in a band called Doahs’ Daydream. I have been in this band for less than one year, and it has already been one of the best, most meaningful projects I’ve ever been a part of. First off, Doah is a strong, charismatic, female singer, who pushes me to be my best. Read more>>

They’re all so meaningful but in very different ways. One recent project that was pretty impactful was the Avalanche Crypto Currency Summit in Barcelona where, what really inspired me (and was an unexpected piece of the installation), was bringing the crypto community with the immersive experience worlds which gave them a meaningful & different experience. We did this by activating an outdoor space at the Poble Espanol to be an immersive healing space adorned with unique art installations Read more>>

When I was a kid I used to laugh at my mom for her drawer of ‘gently used’ tin foil. It seemed just a bit loony. Now, of course, I get why she did it. It wasn’t about the cost of tinfoil. It was about using things up. This was just one of many lessons handed down in my frugal Yankee upbringing to ‘waste not.’ Though I didn’t realize it at first, that’s a large part of the inspiration behind my adaptive reuse line of art jewelry. My upcoming EP is my most meaningful project thus far. I had a particular vision for it early on and thought I was ready to drop it, but things changed for me drastically after the passing of my grandfather last September. After his death, my vision started to change and my sound changed with it. I have a different plan for my EP now. I know that this change is for the better, and I hope that all my listeners agree with me. Read more>>

One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on was actually a free project I did in 2019 for a non-profit called Heart for Africa. Earlier that year, I had gotten an itch to do international work in an area that I hadn’t seen before. I felt a bit stuck in a bubble, and wanted a fresh perspective on how the world operates outside of America. Read more>>

I would have to say my first Ep “Imperfekt”. This Ep is a collective of music that takes people on a journey from being lost in a world full of negativity & bad decisions to finding out who you really are and allowing Jehovah to come into your life and mold you into a better person. A lot of times people think you have to be perfect to be of or even feel loved from God. Im here to tell any & everyone I am far from PERFECT & my life even with the obstacles & challenges I have endured is far much better with a relationship with Jehovah than without. Read more>>

I worked on a project known as ‘Essential Work’ during the pandemic. I took off from my 9-5 and solely focused on my musical craft. With all the cons of Covid and the pandemic, I used it as an opportunity to get closer to God and closer to what I love, including family and music. With no set time to wake up or go to sleep, I was up at all times of the night writing music. I did a lot of reflecting and soul searching. A lot of people gravitated to that project including myself. I made music my Essential Work. Read more>>

Currently, Read With Me has been a collection of self portrait and still life illustrations that has a lot of meaning behind it. It documents my healing and growth before and during the pandemic. Viewers see a personal journey while also being invited in to learn about the books themselves. It ended up unfolding at a pertinent time as politicians started to call for books to be banned. Since long before I became a working artist, I have been active in civic affairs. In the 1980’s I was a core member of a group that fought City Hall and the business community to have Austin’s waterfront land dedicated as parkland. With this background, in 1998 I was chosen to represent parks interests in redeveloping the current sites of the Long Center, Palmer Events Center, Butler Park, and Auditorium Shores. It was a difficult, contentious process of balancing various interests that were often at odds with each other. Read more>>

The project that has been most meaningful recently has been curating the exhibition Along the Colorado. This exhibition brings together artists, scientists, and advocates to share work about the drought declared on the Colorado river. Here’s a short description of the exhibition: On August 16, the US Bureau of Reclamation announced the first official shortage declaration for the Colorado River. For the seven US states along the river, this means new restrictions and a changed relationship not only to the river, but also to each other. Read more>>

For me the most meaningful project was a piece I created in 2021 “Let Freedom Reign”. It won an Award in the 2021 Lawndale Big Show and Juror’s Choice in a current touring Exhibition, 2022 City Wide African American Artist Exhibition. It took courage to create the piece as I worried it would be found to be controversial instead of making an Impact for understanding. Instead it was received exactly as intended. Read more>>

I am five years into filming a documentary, JAX Filipino Chefs #MoreThanLumpia, I believe it is important as Filipino-Americans to record our own stories and share them with the world from our own perspective. One of my sources for rock slabs is an auction site on facebook: Cabs and Slabs and Rocks That Rage and I have been a customer for many years. The owner, Jennie, posted a photo of a jade cabochon that her elderly father had cabbed. In her memory this was the only stone he had ever cut and in her opinion “it was a little wonky”. A traditional cabochon has consistent qualities, such as a flat bottom and tapered sides, allowing an external bezel to be made to hold the stone in place and for a silversmith, these industry standards are pretty important. The most current meaningful project was organizing a group art show at the American Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic. When I immigrated in 1986 to the USA from then communist Czechoslovakia, I always dreamed of connecting both countries and create a dialog. That dream came to fruition this summer when the art show “Czech Footprint” became a reality. I was able to exhibit my artworks, as well as artworks of my husband Roger Bohuslav who is an American of Czech heritage. This project was meaningful for me because I returned to the Czech Republic as a Czech-American connecting both cultures with art, a language which everyone can relate with and appreciate. Atlanta’s Animal Rights March in 2019 has been the most meaningful project I have worked on to this date. At the time, I had been an animal rights activist for about two years and it was extremely exciting to tackle a project such a big project. Having organized many local events and having attended conferences, out of state events, and other marches, really sparked an intense interest in me to initiate a march here in Atlanta. I mentioned it to my friend, who I have organized all the local events with for the past couple of years, and he was on board! Read more>>

The most meaningful project I’ve done was a meditation sound bath in the park. I’ve always wanted to host a free meditation in the park for others because how meditation helped me in my own personal healing journey. At the start of the summer, I had told myself that I would complete my first painting series. I wanted to do something similar to Goya’s ten black paintings. Goya created the group of paintings on the wallpapers of his isolated villa, 14 oil paintings all over his home. 14 paintings by the end of the summer seem like it would be easy enough and I immediately created this newer piece called “At My Bedside” which is a portrait of a ghostly white figure in a glossy black abyss. The most meaningful project that I’ve worked on is the book I most recently published, Book of Psalms: The Anthology. For all of my life writing has been my escape. It’s been my stress release. It’s been the place where I empty the tank to be filled back up again. I remember being a kid and having to sit at the kitchen table to do my homework, which was learning how to write. I remember tracing the numbers and the letters. I can’t quite remember how I got so comfortable writing that I fell in love with doing it. Read more>>
