Although Project V.E.T.S. is a small non-profit based in Boulder, CO, we work internationally for animals in need, and it’s always nice to hear when your work is making a difference. Sometimes though, those stories take me by surprise! One of the best stories from my career is a phone conversation I had with a technician from a City Zoo in Wisconsin. I work with blended families as a counselor and parenting practitioner. There are many challenges that come with blending two different sets of people. One family I worked with had children from the mother. Children from the father and children from the couple. The older children expressed concerns that they were being treated differently from the younger children both parents shared. I am an educator by nature. I started off as a Math teacher and I knew my goal in life was to help people. As I continued in my career, I realized I had more to give. I decided to become a professional counselor; however, I accidentally became a school counselor. After being a school counselor for some time, I decided it was time to open my own professional private practice. In doing so, I began to understand my purpose in helping people.
