Social media can be a really powerful way to connect with and build deeper relationships with your audience – but it can be extremely time consuming. So, we asked some folks we admire to share how they manage their social profiles and whether they’ve hired professionals to help.

I currently manage my own social media accounts. However, I do have help from a social media marketing specialist. She provides me with some content to post and a monthly plan with ideas for stories, reels, etc. I decided to get help because of my busy schedule. This saves me so much time! Plus, I love that she gives me a calendar with daily ideas and content which helps me maintain a constant presence on social media. As a business owner, I would highly recommend getting help with social media. I wish I would have done it sooner! It has freed up so much of my time which has allowed me to spend more time focused on my clients. Read more>>

I’ve always run my own social pages, and although it’s been overwhelming at times, I think it has enabled me to keep my finger on the pulse of my fans & what they want to see. For example, social media gives me the ability to run live polls, & get instant feedback on new ideas, or events, or even branding directions. For folks just starting out, I recommend prioritizing the social media platforms that the majority of your target audience is already using. From there, it’s really about finding your voice; Are you going to be funny? Are you going to be educational? Are you going to be selling your product through direct ads? or through story telling? I manage everything myself. I can’t say I have it really figured out, but I just create content I want or what I think is funny most of the time and post when I can. I try to find creative ways to be engaging or draw in someone new every day. I can’t say it’s that successful, but it’s me. There are no ads, no gimmicks, no bots. Every reaction or comment comes to me, a real person. In a way it makes me feel more honest and true to myself and my business to not have someone else controlling the narrative of my social media. I want people to truly see when they do business with Til Death Creations, they are supporting a small business woman who does literally 100% of everything involved with making these cheeky candles or wax melts by herself. Whether I succeed or fail, I know it was all me. Read more>>

I currently run 3 businesses and I manage 2 of the social media accounts. The other 2 that I do not manage, is managed by my admin assistant. My main business is wedding photography. As a wedding photographer, it is important to connect with my potential clients and for them to get a feel for my personality. If I had somebody else run my social media, it would be hard for people to get a good feel for me and if they wanted to work with me. Since I get 90% of my business from Instagram specifically, I think it is definitely worth my time to focus on the social media there. I do use Planoly to schedule my posts 1-2 weeks out and I do 1-2 weeks at a time. This makes it easy for me to batch my social media posts so I can focus and be in that frame of mind when I am doing it. Read more>>

I’m a small, one-person, business so I do absolutely everything myself…even when I don’t really want to. It’s funny, social media is actually how I got my start as an illustrator—via a ‘daily doodle’ project that involved me posting a drawing each day for a whole year—but as time passes and algorithms change it becomes more difficult to build an audience. This has slowly led to me changing my viewpoint on HOW to use social media. It’s no longer about achieving high follower counts or the most likes, it’s about building a connection with people, some of which could be future customers. Read more>>

I do everything in my business myself, including managing my own social media. Not only does it help me be cost effective, but it helps keep the feel of my business authentically me. It’s one way I am able to interact with customers I would not be able to meet in person, as well as be a creative outlet in my business! One thing I’ve learned by doing my own social media, is it definitely is a learning curve. Social media is such an amazing tool, but can be extremely tricky to figure out when using for a business. The biggest lesson I can give is to use the internet, there’s so much free information available, you just have to search for it! Youtube has step-by-step tutorials and so much marketing information!
