There’s a concept of the Matthew Effect which uses math to illustrate what folks have lamented about for thousands of years – the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. Take tech for example – the rich and poor often have different problems, but because it’s more profitable to solve problems for the wealthy a disproportionate share of tech innovation focuses on solving problems for the affluent. However, it doesn’t have to be this way – and we have been blown away by the thousands of members of our community who have devoted their lives through their businesses, organizations and art to serve the underserved.

Our mission at March to the Polls is to substantially increase electoral participation in underrepresented communities – particularly amongst youth and people of color – through programming that changes the culture of voting and promotes lifelong civic engagement. In many of the neighborhoods we engage, residents face barriers that limit their ability to vote. For instance, polling locations are often located further from these communities, making it difficult for individuals, especially those without reliable transportation, to get there. Many residents also work multiple jobs and cannot afford to take time off to vote, as they prioritize meeting the immediate needs of their families. These obstacles, combined with a lack of accessible voting information, lead to lower voter turnout. Read more>>

Yes, Torches Vacations serves an underserved community, specifically low-income families and individuals who often face barriers to travel. As the founder of Torches Vacations, I know this experience firsthand. Growing up, my family couldn’t afford a vacation; we viewed travel as a privilege reserved for the wealthy. This perception is a myth, and it’s one of our primary goals to educate people on the importance of taking a vacation and making travel accessible for everyone. Regardless of socioeconomic status, everyone deserves the chance to explore and create lasting memories. Read more>>

The community in which I conduct business is in Jacksonville, Florida which can be considered an underserved community in some areas, particularly in terms of access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. Certain neighborhoods experience higher poverty rates, limited access to public transportation, and fewer resources like grocery stores and quality schools. Additionally, disparities in healthcare access and outcomes have been noted, especially among minority populations. Efforts are ongoing to address these challenges, but the extent of being underserved can vary significantly within different parts of the city. Addressing the needs of underserved communities promotes social equity and justice. Read more>>

GirlzWantGirlz is an event company I developed to cater to the LGBTQIA community solely. As we all know our community has quite a push back when it comes to being in safe spaces and being about to express our self’s freely, and have a good time. GirlzWantGirlz is an outlet for the community to come out celebrate major holidays, I.E. Halloween, valentines day, pride, surrounded by our own community. Every event is different but in the end hold the same standard. Our event are still open to those of the hetero family who still love us and support us. With that being said we still take percussion and uphold our promise to create a safe space. Read more>>

Yes, we are dedicated to serving underserved communities. Regrettably, many individuals who share my background experience systemic injustices, including racism, and are not afforded the same opportunities as other communities. When I first entered the nonprofit sector, I was not fully aware of the profound challenges faced by underserved communities; I only knew that I wanted to help others. My journey began with a ‘Prom Makeover’ initiative, which provided support to a high school senior who excelled academically and socially despite facing financial hardships. The goal was to boost the recipient’s confidence, reinforce the feeling of being cared for, and offer the reassurance that positive outcomes are possible through perseverance and integrity.
