There’s a concept of the Matthew Effect which uses math to illustrate what folks have lamented about for thousands of years – the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. Take tech for example – the rich and poor often have different problems, but because it’s more profitable to solve problems for the wealthy a disproportionate share of tech innovation focuses on solving problems for the affluent. However, it doesn’t have to be this way – and we have been blown away by the thousands of members of our community who have devoted their lives through their businesses, organizations and art to serve the underserved.

I love being able to photograph everyone’s family, and every couple. We are so lucky to have some amazing same-sex couples as clients, we are lucky to have some families with special needs children as clients. Skill and talent, in my opinion, is scattered throughout the country pretty evenly. However, opportunity and options are not always dispersed evenly. I try and fill that gap as much as I can with my company, Just Work Athletics. Teaching the game to young kids that might not have that parent around as much as I did, is something I love doing. Putting a ball in a young person’s hands can open doors with no limits or boundaries. Read more>>

When my husband and I were living in Atlanta, Georgia, I started a very small grass roots nonprofit called The Umbrella Project ATL & East Coast.
