There’s a concept of the Matthew Effect which uses math to illustrate what folks have lamented about for thousands of years – the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. Take tech for example – the rich and poor often have different problems, but because it’s more profitable to solve problems for the wealthy a disproportionate share of tech innovation focuses on solving problems for the affluent. However, it doesn’t have to be this way – and we have been blown away by the thousands of members of our community who have devoted their lives through their businesses, organizations and art to serve the underserved.

Giving back to the community is both a passion of mine and a key component of the corporate culture at Butler’s Pantry. I served on the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Development Board for ten years, the Mercantile Library Board of Directors for six years, and the COCA, Royal Bank, and The Muny Boards for a number of years. In addition, my team and I have donated hundreds of hours to several more deserving causes. Read more>>

Small business is lucky if they have a budget for the extras – professional video for websites, showcasing a success story, or capturing a great testimonial. It all seems like a pipe dream. Sometimes when clients enter my door they have questions, but are afraid to ask them. Read more>>

As a Latino, seeing myself represented in Marketing and Advertisement tends to happen during “Hispanic Heritage Month”. Despite the Latinx/Hispanic population growing 6 times faster than non-Latinx in the United States, based on the 2020 Census, it is still underrepresented and underserved. In addition, there is an immense diversity of identities and intersectionality within the Hispanic/Latinx population that “complicates” things for businesses serving our communities. Read more>>

Victims of crime and their families are often retraumatized by what they have to go through to get justice. Friends may abandon them, online trolls harass them, and the legal system requires them to relive what they’ve gone through over and over again in front of strangers. Their stories need to be told, and people need to be made aware of resources available to them. Read more>>
