Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Pagano
Hi Vanessa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Vanessa Pagano, and I live in Switzerland. I was born and raised here, but my parents are Italian. I’ve always felt a strong creative spark within me, but due to distractions and the things taught in school, I was steered away from that path and instead followed the conventional route of education, including studying business administration. During the pandemic, I realized that something was missing in my life, something that was truly mine. With fewer distractions and more time on my hands, I discovered 3D art. I taught myself through tutorials, and with a lot of fun, dedication, tears, and frustration, I’ve reached the point where I am today.
I spent about a year learning intensively before I started working on projects, even though I had no prior experience. I received a lot of attention because it was something that not many people were familiar with at the time, and I gradually became more involved in it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it was a smooth transition, as I completely changed my life and myself in the process. While personal growth came naturally to me, learning the skills and believing in myself, as well as working on projects, was challenging at first because I was new to the industry. However, it has been and continues to be incredibly rewarding to discover new things and collaborate with different people.
The biggest struggles were definitely the learning process and having the dedication to keep going, even when others laughed or questioned what I was doing. It was tough, but pushing through those doubts and continuing on despite what others thought was essential.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
‘m a 3D generalist, specializing in 3D work, and I use a variety of software, with Blender, Marvelous Designer, and Daz Studio being my primary tools. I also create 2D art and work on a range of projects. The distinction between art and commercial projects lies in their purpose: art is something you create for yourself, to sell, or to exhibit, which I do both physically and in the metaverse. On the other hand, I also work on commercial projects for music artists or companies with specific products. The field is vast, and my clients are incredibly diverse—I collaborate with music artists and also work with companies.
My background in marketing and my experience have been invaluable, helping me maintain professionalism and understand the business side of things. I love the variety in my job; many people think it’s just about creating, but there’s so much more to it. Before and after the creative process, there’s a lot of work involved, like meetings, concepts, and briefings, all of which are integral to my work before I even start creating.
I think I’m known for my unique artistic style, which can sometimes be weird and dark, but also poppy, vibrant, and colorful. I’m particularly recognized for creating characters, especially female ones. I don’t know why, but I feel that women are such beautiful creatures that I can’t stop creating female characters.
I’m incredibly proud to be partially self-employed now and to have achieved so much on my own. Of course, I have great support from my partner, but a lot of it came from within myself. I’m proud that I never gave up, even when I didn’t know how to solve certain challenges—I always found a way. I believe my style is truly unique and maybe that is something that sets me apart from others.
