Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Owens.
Hi Vanessa , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started with a conversation I had with my hubby. Goals things we wanted to do with our life. We encourage each other and I’m so grateful for that. I’m a fat woman who loves Pumpkins! Lol. Unfortunately if you live in a bigger body in this society you’re not allowed to exist and be happy at the same time.
I wanted to see fat happy representation. So I became representation. I’m a self-titled body positivity model :) . Everyone deserves to wear what they want how they want without judgments.
I also loved the whole food blogger thing. It’s something I didn’t really see fat people doing. I go to events and support my community, I’ve even had a few sponsored partnerships with McDonald’s. My platform is a part-time hobby that brings me so much joy and I just want everyone to know if I can do this so can you.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
OMG no!. As a fat person I’m no stranger to bullying. Some people online take it as upon themselves to be so cruel they feel a safety behind an anonymous screen. It’s absolutely heartbreaking :(. Despite all that I have found a wonderful community that I never knew I needed. So much love so much support. Friendships all over the world and in my local community. I’ve been able to overcome any struggle because of love.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a wife and dog mom / content creator. My Hubby Josh & Dog Brittany are my world.
If I had to give it a specific work title :
It would be Body Positivity Model / foodie blogger + coffee and tea explorer.
I’m most proud of the way I love and support my insta besties and community. With all of my heart I hope people feel loved cared for and seen. I hope my platform is a safe space for everyone.
I’m beyond grateful and feel so blessed to live this life.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Keep Going!! Even when it’s hard, it will get better. If this is something you truly want to do a path will show itself to you. Have good intentions and respect people along the way.
I’ve learned you to do what everyone else is doing. Please stay away from people who try and sell you and convince you they know every step of the way. Social media changes every day go with the flow and do your best don’t let people take advantage of you.
Keep being your beautiful self.
Be authentic and vulnerable.
