Today we’d like to introduce you to Steffanie Costigan
Hi Steffanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been writing from a very young age, my parents say since I was three years old, I would draw stories all over the walls of my room. As I got older I began my best to write stories down, drawing illustrations for them. There was only one problem, although I loved writing and telling stories writing was also my weakness. I have a learning disability called dyslexia. So most people couldn’t understand my writing because of all the errors in my writing. However, I was determined to not let my reading and writing impairment get in my way. I kept writing despite all the doubts, despite my teachers telling me I would never succeed. Matter of fact you could say it made me even more motivated that I would not let anything get in the way of my passion. Eventually writing turned into my strength, and now I am ecstatic to be an author and a journalist/reporter.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I guess I mentioned this in my first answer but it’s been super hard for me having dyslexia. I had to really work hard, I still have to work very hard. What takes a normal writer to write an hour’s worth takes me three hours. Luckily I have tools to help assist with my reading and writing impairment in my daily work and personal writing time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do journalism/reporting for a living. I really enjoy it, and the experience I get from it. It’s a very different writing style than creative writing.
What does success mean to you?
When you have given it your all and at the end of the day have inspired others.
