Today we’d like to introduce you to Sparkle Hill
Hi Sparkle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Honestly, I was a Tom Boy as a younger child who didn’t want to wear dresses lol! Eventually, I grew out of that but I do remember watching my Grandmother do her makeup before leaving the house. I started modeling during my teenage years and became a makeup artist by age 22. I offered classic makeup services for local weddings, magazines and celebrities for all occasions! I think Covid pushed me to start FLY Brushes because I was unable to offer any service during that time so I began offering online tutorials as a way to continue generating an income.
During those times, we were all on edge and cleaning almost everything but during a few zoom call consultations, I became aware that a lot of my clients hadn’t washed their makeup brushes or didn’t know how!
This information sparked my interest because I believe that is extremely important, especially if they don’t want their skin exposed to additional dirt and debris. I mean , we have enough pollution and what not … dirty makeup brushes can cause clogged pores and so much more!
Luckily, my mother had a case of BLUE glass bottles (blue is my favorite color by the way) and I was able to
create the brush Bath (washing) first , the brush Cleaner (quick spray) second, the matching makeup brushes came after.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not always easy for me. I didn’t receive any grants or accelerated programs. I felt like I was doing something wrong. I’d hear and see others gaining traction by applying to so many different organizations but I was never one of those lucky people so I took the hard road to success.
One main struggle was financially, I had to figure out how to survive, take care of my family and create a product all at the same time with what was in my bank account. Believe me it wasn’t much!
Another struggle was finding my target audience. This is very important for any business. You truly have to do research and find YOUR target market.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a local Makeup Artist and Esthetician, I love making people feel good about themselves.
I specialize in natural makeup, one on one classes teaching makeup throughout my tristate area and eyebrow waxing.
I’m most proud of my consistency! There has been many times I wanted to give up but I had to give myself GRACE along with a huge pat on the back because I kept moving forward. Being a single parent and now grandparent, there were times I had to sit and make difficult choices. Being consistent and understanding that no one can offer what I offer because they’re not me. I believe there is something special about everyone and it’s what sets us apart from one another.
Currently, I’m still the very proud owner of Main Line Beauty Studio in Newtown Square Pennsylvania and athough none of the accelerated programs or grants worked out for me, I never gave up. As of December 2024, Fly Brushes is now available on Flip Shop online and I know it will continue to grow.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson was probably that you never stop learning. There is always room for growth and learning something new no matter your profession.
