Hi Shubham, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello guys ,
To be honest it all started with just an idea. I was scrolling through my instagram page,there i saw a post of a lady where she was explaining the cost of medical treatment in USA.She recently had her hernia surgery and she was there in hospital for 2 days.When she was discharged ,she got a bill of around $86k for here treatment there she realised how expensive the treatment is but fortunately she had an insurance.I believe her insurer covered the cost of treatment.As she was explaining the components of her bill,i realized that what could be cost of same treatment in India ?
That question was continuously surfacing in my mind.Therefore,i contacted one of my relative who is a doctor and casually asked him about the cost of the same treatment in India.He replied by saying that “Its depend upon the condition of patient and how complex it would be.But the treatment cost would go around $1.5K-$4K”.I was literally shocked at that time and saw the business opportunity.
After that i started about the researching about the medical tourism and how big the market is.It took me around a month to be finally complete my research.There after i started contacting VC’s ,angel investor,other entreprenuers for funding and guidance.I think i literally contacted 200+ investors and explained my idea but all i got from them was a big NO.I thought i need money for building the startup,but i was wrong i just need to build something that people would love and connect emotionally.That’s where i started to build SAFEMEDICALTRAVEL,while i was building it one person randomly contacted me on Instagram.He said “I want to design your logo ” and i am like brother i can’t pay you.He said”No worry i will not charge anything for it ” and this is how i got the company logo for our startup.After that i design website using AI and started promoting it on Instagram and Twitter. Soon i got an message from a person who was interested in our services.
We are continuously focused on building it and keep improving our services,untill we achieve our target of 10,000 patients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No,the journey was not smooth at all. The main challenge was distraction and self doubt.Noone was believing on this idea and keep rejecting us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My startup is the most creative thing which i have done in my life.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was really underconfident in my school.But i was ambitious and like to think differently.I used to hate studying and always dream of plying cricket with my friends.
