Today we’d like to introduce you to Shilpa Raju.
Hi Shilpa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out as an engineer but went on to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a writer.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t a smooth ride. Initially, it was all about breaking the stereotypes and taking the road less travelled. But later on, familial responsibilities piled on.
But never the one to give up, with a newborn in one hand and a laptop on the other, I finally began the lonesome journey of writing a novel during covid.
After the novel, came the real struggle of facing rejections.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an author of the psychological thriller, “Best Friends Forever,” which was published in the year 2021.
After a long hiatus, I’m ready to work on my next one, now that my little one is not so little anymore and has grown into a school going boy.
Not to be mean, but these days, all I aspire to do is bid goodbye to my son, whispering the words, “I miss you” in his ear, and then try to make the most of my “blissful solitude” thereafter.
Every person is different and their situations vary. So I would never say that there is something that sets me apart because I don’t know what the rest of them go through. I would never project myself as a snowflake.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I never had a mentor. As long as you do your part and are well versed in a certain skill, I believe you don’t really “need” a mentor. But you might need a partner or a confidant who would give that push towards your goal when the times are tough.
