Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakerra Horn
Hi Shakerra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I was always a creative person. I loved art, dance, fashion design—you name it. I took countless classes both in and out of school to nurture my creativity. After graduating, I moved to Philadelphia to pursue a dance career, but life had other plans. I found myself transitioning into creative directing for musicians, which felt like a natural evolution of my artistic passions.
Around my second year in Philadelphia, I discovered I was pregnant with my daughter. That moment was a turning point for me. I immediately reevaluated my life, moved back home to Maryland, and decided to start over. I wanted to be the best mom I could be while still pursuing a creative career, and entrepreneurship felt like the best route to achieve that balance.
I began by creatively directing photoshoots for startup cosmetic brands, which gradually evolved into marketing. That’s how my agency was born. It’s been an incredible journey of blending my passion for creativity with a drive to help brands tell their stories and succeed. My path wasn’t straightforward, but each step taught me resilience, adaptability, and the power of following your dreams.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The journey has been filled with countless trials and errors, and honestly, I’m still learning every day. Entrepreneurship is anything but predictable. There have been moments of doubt, financial challenges, and learning curves that tested my patience and perseverance.
One of the biggest struggles has been figuring out how to balance my personal life with the demands of running a business, especially as a mom. Another challenge has been finding clients who truly value the work I do and are willing to invest in quality services, rather than just seeking the cheapest option.
Despite the hurdles, I’ve embraced the process and learned to see every setback as an opportunity for growth. It hasn’t been easy, but the lessons I’ve gained along the way have been invaluable, shaping me into the entrepreneur I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a creative entrepreneur specializing in marketing and advertising for the health, wellness, fashion, and beauty industries. Through my agency, Avenue Omni, I offer services like social media management, website development, ad and commercial production, and creative direction. My passion lies in helping businesses bring their visions to life with bold, strategic, and impactful marketing campaigns.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and how my work has helped their brands grow and thrive. Knowing that I play a part in their success is incredibly fulfilling.
What sets me apart is my creative foundation. I grew up immersed in art, dance, and design, which has given me a unique perspective and an eye for detail. My experience as a creative director also allows me to blend artistic vision with strategic execution seamlessly.
Additionally, I prioritize genuine connections with my clients, taking the time to understand their stories and goals so that every campaign feels authentic and aligned. I believe creativity paired with purpose is what truly makes a brand memorable.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I see the marketing and creative industries undergoing significant transformations. Technology, especially AI, is rapidly reshaping how we work. While AI can be an incredible tool for efficiency and innovation, it also presents a challenge—if we, as creatives, don’t become more innovative and adaptable, AI has the potential to take over many roles, including photography, modeling, and even creative direction.
AI already offers tools that can generate content, design visuals, and analyze trends with impressive accuracy. However, what sets humans apart is our ability to create with emotion, storytelling, and cultural nuance—things that technology can’t replicate on the same level.
To stay ahead, I believe the industry will need to focus on pushing boundaries and creating experiences that are deeply human and authentic. Interactive and immersive marketing, such as augmented reality (AR), experiential events, and storytelling-driven campaigns, will likely dominate the next wave of trends.
Ultimately, those who can embrace AI as a tool while continuing to innovate and connect on a personal level will thrive in this new era of marketing. The key will be balancing technology with creativity to keep our work relevant and impactful.
