Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarina Byron
Sarina , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Sure! Today, I am a published author and Non-Profit leader. However, I arrived at this point after a decade-long career in Investment Banking and a burning passion for immortalizing my everyday observations on paper. I was born with a passion for the written word and as time went on it became impossible to resist that urge. I started by writing for the United Nations in parallel to my time on Wall Street and moved on to multi-genre articles during the pandemic.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
That’s an interesting question, it has and it hasn’t. What made it easy was an unavoidable urge to put pen to paper or finger to the keyboard! Once I started allowing the ideas and stories to flow, I had no control over them and with repetitive execution my writing began to meet the acceptable standards in the market.
The struggle was always with self-confidence! Who is a writer and what qualifies me as one? Which publication does one have to be published in to be recognized as a “real” author? Even as my 100th article was published in a span of 14 months, these questions haunted me every time I sat down to write. So yes, the biggest struggle has only been internal.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sure! I am a published author and Non-Profit leader. In the realm of writing I specialize in impactful and thought-provoking articles that attract readers. Having published over 100 articles, I am now working on my first fiction novel. I am largely a self-taught author which is a fact that I am proud of as it pushes me to better myself without relying on external prompts or validation.
This quality set me apart when I was beginning my career as a feature writer. The same also got me accepted at the prestigious Yale Writers’ Workshop where I was one of six individuals chosen to workshop my book draft with a published writer.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Speaking of lessons, there have been many along the way but the one I hold dearest is that one has to keep learning. As a writer, one may be tempted to repeat what succeeded the last time but the content landscape changes everyday so one has to incorporate everything from books, social media material, journalism, and real life observations when creating any new piece. There simply is no way around continued growth in this profession.
