Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Arnold.
Hi Sandra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for fashion and wanted to be a fashion. However; I was a teen mom. I had my eldest child at the age of 17, so I felt like a couldn’t work toward being a fashion designer right out of high school. Despite being a teen mom, I graduated from Luther Burbank high school in 1998 with a 3.4 GPA. I was excepted into Sac University, but I decided to go to Heald Business College instead. I felt that I needed to learn the computer, so I could get a good job and take care of my son. I received AA in computer business administration. During my time at Heald all my project were about fashion and I was asked why did I go to Heald. I didn’t have time to wait 4 years to get a degree because I had a child to take care of. After graduating I worked several jobs, but wasn’t happy doing those jobs and they didn’t pay enough. At 20 I got hired on at Kaiser in there call center, which gave me flexibility. I could work there part time and also pursue my dream of being a fashion designer. In 2005 I started my clothing company Chinyairee. I was participating in fashion shows all throughout Sacramento and Bay Area. Unfortunately I was injured on my job and had to put my company on hold for about 7 years. In 2018 I started back up. I had to change the spelling of my company name, because during the time I was inactive I didn’t renew my factious name. When I started back in business, I began producing fashion jewelry and accessories. Now I’ve been focusing on making clothing again. Designing is what I love. I have a 66quart storage container, with folders full of sketches I created. I used to come up with 5 sketches a day, during the time my business wasn’t active. In the past I never produced any of my stretches I would freestyle my designs according to the different fashion shows I was doing. Now it’s my time to show the world my designs and the gift God gave me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Dealing with different health issues that had arose over the years, caused setbacks. I don’t come from money, so my day to day job, I used to help with buying things I need for my company. I started doing clothing alterations to bring in money to help my business. So Shinyairee is a clothing, accessories and alterations company.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a fashion designer. I design casual to formal wear. I enjoy creating pieces that can be dressed up or down. I really take pride in picking out fabrics that are quality and durable. I feel like I’m different from other designs because I don’t follow trends.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Can’t really think of a favorite childhood memory. When I think of memories, I tend to remember what people were wearing. Lol seems different right to remember someone’s clothes. I moved to Sacramento from Portland Oregon in 1985 and I remember meeting my cousin Kimberly for the first time. She had on a pair of yellow pants with a white bottom down top.
