Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Patterson.
Hi Sabrina , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
About eight years ago, I was living in Alaska, surrounded by breathtaking beauty that inspired me every day. I realized that when I had a camera in my hand, I felt a deep sense of peace.
At the time, I was working a 9-to-5 job, struggling with a sense of stagnation in my life. I knew I wanted more, but I had to push myself to go after it. So, I made the bold decision to quit my college courses and leave my draining job, taking a leap to work at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
There, I spent my days caring for grizzly bears, owls, and porcupines. Although I loved the work, I felt more alive when I was holding a camera. I realized that my true passion was photography, and despite the uncertainty, I decided to dive in fully, even if it wasn’t the most financially secure path at the time.
Looking back, I’m proud of the resilience and courage it took to pursue what I knew was right for me. Today, I’m an international wedding photographer, educator, and web designer—and I’ve turned my dreams into reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve faced many challenges on my journey to success, but one of the hardest moments came when my family and I had to move from Alaska to Florida. Leaving behind the life we had built in Alaska was heartbreaking. I had finally reached a place of stability in my business, and the thought of starting over in a new place—especially somewhere I’d never lived before—felt like an enormous obstacle. It was, without a doubt, the most difficult challenge I’ve had to face.
During this time, I faced significant emotional, financial, and mental struggles, and I truly felt the weight of it all. But through it all, I never let go of my camera. I also began therapy, taking the first steps toward healing from the inside out.
As I worked on improving my mental health, I noticed that my business began to improve as well.
Today, my best advice is this: a strong mind fuels a strong business.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a documentary photographer and artist based in Pensacola, Florida, though I’m currently preparing for yet another move—this time, back to my hometown near Pittsburgh, PA.
I travel worldwide to photograph my couples, with England being my next international destination.
My approach to photography is deeply documentary in nature, specializing in capturing love stories, the essence of parenthood, and the tender moments in pregnancy.
I document these stories through a combination of digital photography, 35mm film, and Super8 film, documenting emotion evoking memories in every frame.
What sets my work apart is my editing style. It carries a distinct nostalgic feel, infused with grit, romance, warmth, emotion, and just a hint of haze.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I truly believe social media has opened up incredible opportunities for connecting with like-minded creatives, and I’m deeply grateful for its power. Instagram, in particular, offers endless possibilities for collaboration, support, and is a powerful tool for word-of-mouth growth.
