Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabina Bower
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in Tanzania and adopted at five, and moved to rural Pennsylvania—a place where the idea of a creative career was unheard of. I had no idea that a brand designer or a creative strategist was even a legitimate career path until college. But I’ve always been creating – just because I enjoyed it. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling like producing video content for Youtube and then that morphed into designing for social.
I bet many creatives resonate with this experience! One moment, I felt like I was just diving into Final Cut Pro to create fun YouTube videos, and the next, I was exploring website design to showcase my portfolio. Then through that, I discovered a passion for website design and brand strategy, and before I knew it, I transformed into a brand and website designer, working with amazing clients and enjoying the freedom to work from anywhere in the world!
Before I had paid clients, I was working at a 9-5 at a sports company. But each evening, I’d come home, eat dinner, and dive straight into a new project brief. Between taking courses to improve my skills in Webflow or Illustrator and new projects, it was like a second full-time job. But if I had to do it again – I 100% would. This era of my life really set everything up for me now.
Now, Out Brand Them is a place where I can balance creativity and strategy, specializing in website design, branding, and email marketing for playful e-commerce brands. Half of my day consists of creative strategy and designing, but the other half is business: client calls, lead generation, setting up paid ads, building my promotional calendar, and sourcing contractors.
About six months ago, I realized that I wanted to align my work with my personal values. I’m incredibly fortunate to come from an inspiring family filled with people who are deeply passionate about their work—like my sister, who excels in nature conservation and has been a guiding influence for me along the way. So I decided to open my second studio, which just launched a few weeks ago.
My new studio, Next Wave Studio, focuses on nonprofits with powerful missions – like improving public transportation, advancing women’s rights, and protecting the planet. Offering the same services—website design, branding, email marketing, and creative direction—Next Wave is my way of combining purpose and passion. Building it has been a full-circle moment, reflecting the grit, determination, and heart that have shaped my journey so far.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve always known the security blanket of a paycheck every two weeks and have worked on my design studio on the side.
When I made the decision to take my design studio full-time, it was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made. Leaving the stability of a nine-to-five and stepping into the unknown came with a lot of uncertainty—questions like, “Will I be able to find enough clients?” or “What if this doesn’t work out?” constantly lingered in my mind.
The transition wasn’t easy, but I was determined to make it work. I poured my energy into finding clients, perfecting my craft, and building a brand that resonated. There were tough moments of self-doubt and financial pressure, but those challenges pushed me to work harder and trust my vision. Looking back, it was absolutely worth it, and it taught me the importance of betting on myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the founder of two design studios—Out Brand Them and Next Wave Studio. At Out Brand Them, I specialize in website design, branding, and email marketing for playful e-commerce brands, helping them create stunning online presences that not only look incredible but also deliver real results. Next Wave Studio focuses on nonprofits with powerful missions, offering the same creative services with an emphasis on purpose-driven work that aligns with my personal values.
What sets me apart are the results that my clients see. Clients have seen huge conversion spikes, form submissions, new leads, and higher-quality leads after our partnerships. It’s more than a new website or a fresh logo, it’s a full-on strategy that stands out from your competition, makes people connect with your non-profit’s mission, and takes you to a whole new level.
I make a goal to have a long-term partnership with my clients. Once they start a project with Out Brand Them or Next Wave Studio, the goal is that they come back for more. Whether it’s print projects, email marketing, etc – we’re in it for the long haul. For example, one of our clients, 4KINSHIP started with a landing page redesign request. Then a full website design… and now we’re about to take over their email marketing completely. We make it a point to deeply understand their goals and build trust – just like if we were an in-house team.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I just moved to Seattle in February and I fell in love with this city. It’s actually the first time I’ve lived in a proper city.
Pros: Seattle is so creative, and there’s so much to do. The food is amazing; the light rail is amazing, etc. People in Seattle care about social issues and people want to get involved. I highly recommend Capitol Hill for designers and creatives.
Cons: This is my first real winter in Seattle, and the gray is no joke. Last December, I lived in Florida, where it was sunny every day, and in the 80s. This winter in Seattle, I barely want to leave my house, and even getting groceries feels like a huge chore.
Even with the gray, Seattle, WA is the coolest place I’ve ever lived.
