Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Christian
Hi Ryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was 12 when I had discovered what the nuances of acting could bring to entertainment and the world as a whole. I had started off with Will Smith in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but not the funny type of stuff he had been known for. What had touched me most of all were the dramatic moments he had. Specifically, the scene with his father abandoning him for the second time in his life. Once I had been so viscerally moved by that scene, I knew I had to pursue the arts. And I joined a conservatory program through Boys & Girls Harbor in Harlem right after that.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been heartbreaking in a myriad of ways. Discovering that life isn’t exactly what you it was depicted like in the feel-good films and tv shows can pull you for a spin for a number of reasons. But it’s been eventful, too. I’ve met a great number of artists that, if i hadn’t met them, I wouldn’t be me. And that’s cool to know.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Right now, I’m specializing in musical theatre. I’m developing my own musical short/feature film. This is what I’m most proud of, at the moment. It depicts the life of a down on his luck artist thats uncertain of what to create during the aftermath of a breakup and the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. I think it’ll set a precedent for how musical theatre is seen within the guise of general film audiences.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’d love help getting this short film produced. If anything, I’d love feedback on everything I’ve written thus far. I ask friends and script coverage sites, but the people I don’t know that are working day to day are just as, if not, more important to get ideas from.
