Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Lague
Hi Ruth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my career as a graphic designer and creative director with a focus on user-centric design. This practice helped to inform my belief that “less is more” and that concept carries over to build a strong foundation for my work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the hardest part has been to be open to the evolution. My early work was much different than what I paint today, and I expect that years from now, it will evolve again. It’s important to keep going — and let the process define me than the other way around.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I paint pastoral landscapes and architecture pared down to their barest forms. By providing the most minimal visual cues, I invoke rather than detail—suggesting a range of natural formations. I am particularly drawn to the interplay between colors and textures in defining spaces.
My style strives for simplicity and visual economy while allowing the flow of my creative instincts to capture scenes as a whole, bordering on abstract rather than noting the realities of individual objects.
A key feature of my landscapes are the structures. I encourage the viewer to look upon these structures as the peoples’ cathedral.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid gave me time and the opportunity to explore a new style and build my presence on social media.
