Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Fleury.
Hi Ruth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started with a deep love for education and literacy. With 16 years of experience in the education field, I saw firsthand how representation and access to books could transform children’s lives. I wanted to create a space where aspiring authors, especially Black and Brown voices, could share their stories with the world.
In 2021, I founded Scholars Of Tomorrow Publishing, LLC to help authors navigate the writing, publishing, and marketing process. Along the way, I also became an author myself, writing books that celebrate culture, identity, and self-love. Seeing my daughters, Rulianna and Runesa, follow in my footsteps and become published authors has been one of my proudest moments.
My work has been recognized internationally, with Hyper Kid, So They Say! winning the Golden Wizard Book Prize and Soup Joumou Freedom Celebration earning an international book award. I was also honored with a Global Leadership Award, which reinforced my mission to continue empowering others through storytelling.
Beyond books, I’ve expanded my impact through speaking engagements and, most recently, launching Maddie’s and Ruthie’s Corner. Through every project, my goal remains the same—to inspire, uplift, and give others the confidence to share their voices with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped my journey. When I started Scholars Of Tomorrow Publishing, LLC, I was passionate about helping aspiring authors, but navigating the business side of publishing came with a learning curve. Balancing my roles as an educator, author, publisher, and mother required a lot of time management and perseverance.
One of the biggest struggles was breaking into an industry where Black and brown voices are often underrepresented. I had to work hard to create opportunities, build a supportive community, and ensure that my authors—especially children—felt empowered to share their stories.
Another challenge was time. Writing and publishing require patience, and I had to learn how to juggle my own projects while guiding others through theirs. Seeing my daughters, Rulianna and Runesa, go through this process as young authors reminded me how important it is to stay committed, even when things get tough.
Despite the obstacles, I’ve been blessed to see my work recognized internationally and to help others achieve their publishing dreams. Every struggle has reinforced my belief that representation matters, and I’m committed to continuing this mission.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for my commitment to literacy, representation, storytelling that uplifts and inspires. My books, including Hyper Kid, So They Say! and Soup Joumou Freedom Celebration, have received international recognition, and my passion extends beyond writing—I actively work to create opportunities for new authors through workshops, speaking engagements, and mentorship.
What sets me apart is my hands-on, heart-centered approach. I don’t just help people publish books—I help them find their voice, believe in their stories, and navigate a path that many never imagined possible. My mission is to make storytelling accessible, powerful, and transformative for everyone, especially the next generation of authors.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality that has contributed to my success is perseverance. The journey of being an author, publisher, and educator hasn’t always been easy, but my determination to push forward, despite challenges, has kept me going.
Whether it was navigating the publishing industry, balancing multiple roles, or advocating for underrepresented voices, I never let setbacks stop me. Instead, I used them as lessons to grow and improve.
Beyond perseverance, passion and purpose have played a huge role. I genuinely love helping aspiring authors, especially children, discover their voices. Seeing their excitement when they hold their books for the first time reminds me why I do this work. My success isn’t just about personal achievements—it’s about the impact I make in the lives of others.
