Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Bello
Ricardo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my artistic life when I was 16, drawing a drawing of a TV artist who admired his work and I personally took it to him at the theater where he was presenting a show. He liked my work, thanked me, showed it to a waiter in the dressing room and said he would put my drawing in a painting. That moved me a lot and gave me strength to continue the work. From that day on, I began drawing the artists I admired and personally delivering the drawings I made of each of them. This way I achieved the record for the largest number of caricatures of celebrities delivered in person. Record recognized by Rankbrasil, the Brazilian record book.
Years later I started doing theater, I took a theater course, I participated in two plays. And I started doing comedy shows, stand-up comedy and characters.
It’s rewarding to entertain people, to bring joy through work.
I also work as a Journalist. I have a website called Revista de Cultura, which means culture’s magazine in English. In it I promote shows, events, reflections on the gospel of the day and we have many visitors from different parts of the world. It is interesting to see how culture unites people and art saves them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path varies, sometimes it is peaceful, other times less so, but you need strength and faith. Problems and suffering exist, but they are temporary. You have to believe in better days, always!
As the popular saying goes: those who don’t have faith don’t stand up…so it’s important to believe and follow through on your goals, always.
Living is a constant challenge. Every day we have something new to solve. We can often miss the past, the days when problems were smaller or didn’t even exist, but every day we have something different to solve. So, we need to breathe and move forward in search of better horizons.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a comedian and journalist. I do stand-up comedy and character shows and this has impacted the lives of many people, who have seen me around in some of the presentations or on TV, newspapers. When I walk on the streets people comment, sometimes they don’t know my name, but they know that I put on a show. “Look at the stand-up guy”, “He does comedy, I know this guy”. Some of the phrases I hear and I’m happy with it. Seeing that the work I do is recognized and loved by people. I confess that before I was a little afraid, scared perhaps by this recognition, but as a friend once said: art is a gift and people recognize that. I always have to be grateful for that and I always try to set good examples.
In Journalism I also always try to do a good job, choosing good news to publish on the website. I receive several emails with different releases and I choose some to publish. It’s a job that I really like too.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The lesson I have learned on this journey through art and journalism is that we must always do the best with our work. Thinking about serving people with our work, in the best possible way. And being an artist I can see that people often have us as a reference for their lives. That’s why we should worry about doing the best we can with our work, doing good for people.
It’s cool to be successful, but it’s even more important to be humble. We learn these lessons over the years.
