Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercedes Mansilla

Mercedes, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

Locked inside a one-bedroom apartment in the middle of a global pandemic, I stumbled upon a TikTok video showcasing a woman who claimed she was making over 34K a month with Fiverr Pro as a copywriter. I was jobless, like most people during that time, desperate to make money and eager to finally do what I loved most: WRITING.

Ever since I was a tiny 5-year-old, I enjoyed reading, writing stories and letters… I was also very convincing. I’d write letters to my parents to ask them to do things for me, get me presents, and yes – I always got what I wanted. So we could say I had an innate gift: The gift of persuasion, which I then began to study in detail after stumbling upon The Price –one of the greatest works of art in the non-fiction world–. Then I discovered my passion for psychology, marketing and neuroscience with a translator degree under my belt. So, that was it, I HAD TO BECOME A COPYWRITER.

And that’s the moment when the light bulb turn on for me: When I knew my passion had a name: Copywriting.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

Life is the biggest lesson of all. And as overused as this term is, really whatever happens to you happens FOR YOU. Every stepping stone I had stumbled upon with became a new story, a new empathy unlocked, a new way to connect with a new target audience. From being bullied at school, to struggling with hormonal weight gain and acne, Hashimoto’s, PCOs, ADHD, and living through tough situations – including one I’m literally going through right now; I always learn something out of it – and I take it with me. To my clients’ stories, to my customer avatar’s reports, to my copy.

Life experiences are the greatest forms of storytelling, and storytelling is the foundation of good copy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

I think what truly sets me apart from others are my life’s experiences. I’ve had plenty of clients ask me how I managed to mimic their voice so well or truly connect with their audience. I have two secrets:

1. I’ve always “copied” people growing up, imitating accents, voices, ways of talking, impersonating… I think that has a lot to do with it. And whether you write copy or ghostwrite a book, this is key. If you don’t sound like your client / brand, you’re not going to stay for long.

2. My life has always been a roller coaster. I could sit here and cry over it, or take advantage of this. Got Hashimoto’s? Ok I’m going to learn as much as I can about hormones (also that makes me extremely relatable to your audience if you’re a hormone coach), same applies to supplements, fitness (try getting in shape with hormonal fluctuations – impossible? No! But you need to train and eat accordingly– that already makes you an expert, even you’re not certified). Got ADHD? Guess what, what makes me extremely creative; I think outside the box and work and learn fast (If I’m interested in the topic, that is).

So yeah, your weaknesses are actually your strengths if you know how to play your cards well enough…

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?

-Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks keeps my creativity flowing and my projects on track.

-Curiosity: A relentless drive to learn helps me stay ahead of trends and craft relevant, engaging content.

– An Analytical Mind: My knack for dissecting data enables me to fine-tune strategies and optimize results, after all I’m a proud INTJ.

– Creativity: Thinking outside the box allows me to craft unique, compelling narratives that resonate with audiences.
