Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Ehnes
Hi Matt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Montana, where at an early age, I learned the impact a photo can have. In high school my hobby became my passion and I decided to turn that passion into my career. I pursued my passion at the brooks institute in Los Angeles for 3 years, studying all forms of art and taking advantage of the unique culture the L.A. area offers. After graduating, I made my way back to Montana where i enjoy weaving the beauty of our natural surroundings into my work with weddings, families, students, nonprofits, charities, and even sports.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Just as any entrepreuner knows, owning a business has its ups and downs. As an artist, adapting to advancing technology and constantly evolving trends has been paramount. These are growing pains that have to be confronted head on. While I’ve had to evolve, I’ve also had to stay anchored to my roots and my unique style as an artist. Balancing these 2 factors is a struggle that persists to this day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
A camera in my hand has always brought a certain peace in my life. But the reason I continue to pursue a career in photography is based on the potential impact an image can have. I get joy out of the whole process: meeting new people, learning different ways of life, and collaborating with my clients’ own creativity.
I specialize in wedding photography and people are drawn to my work for my wide cinematic photos that typically highlight the beautiful backdrops of Montana or other destinations. My imagery usually pops out with true tone and color.
Although wedding photography takes up a large part of my time, I’m constantly searching for new ways to challenge myself. I love the feeling of accomplishment that sets in after I set a goal and learn something new. Lately, it’s been traveling the world with Jared’s Detours to learn about new cultures and document environmental projects.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Perhaps the most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to find ways to keep my passion alive. I’m extremely grateful that my career is also my favorite hobby, but as with anything, eventually work is just work. I’ve noticed that when this happens I need to find ways to flame the fire in order to keep finding joy in my art. Currently I do that by traveling with Jared’s Detours to photograph in a way I never have before.
