Today we’d like to introduce you to Marly Mcfly
Hi Marly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a visual storyteller. My creations include but are not limited to paintings, murals, toys, animation, and apparel.
I incorporate pop culture to create narrative driven works revolved around my original characters Zook and Raya.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing worth pursuing is going to come easy, adversity comes with the journey but the challenges are worth it. It’s difficult breaking or coming up with a new idea and making people “get it”.
Over time, one of the things I realized about being creative is people might try to simplify or get you to dumb down your vision.
You can flat-out tell others who you are, but it does not mean they will truly see you. Perception can be limiting.

I create narrative driven pieces featuring my original characters.
Zook is a mischievous street artist from the Bronx. He is a reflection of my inner child. He is not just a character, he’s a beacon of hope, a symbol of resilience, and a reminder that no dream is too big and no box is too confining. He is a positive Black Latino street artist. Like myself, he is here to inspire children of color to break boundaries, embrace their uniqueness, and chase after their wildest dreams.
I typically draw him in outrageous situations because I want children to see that thinking outside the box and being yourself is okay. The general message is not to let people defer you from your dreams. Imagination is necessary.
How do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t call it luck. I’ve had a vision and will always put the work to see that through. I’m always willing to live with the results as long as I do what I need to and what’s within my power, that’s what my brand is all about.
