Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Jeffries
Hi Mark, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my solo DiLisio in 2019. I was in a band at the time that was on the verge of splitting, and with my creative energy still intact I knew I needed a music project of my own. And I’ve truly made it my own, with 3 full-length albums and a few EPs under my belt in just the past 5 years. Currently, I’m putting the finishing touches on my 4th album, and I’m confident it’s my best work yet.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. It still isn’t! Haha. I’ve managed to gain a respectable fanbase in my hometown of Pittsburgh, as well as made a decent dent of Spotify followers/listeners, all without a record label. Through Instagram and Facebook ads, consistent musical output, and a social media presence without going too insane, DiLisio has been an entirely grassroots endeavor. With all that to say, my favorite aspect is the songwriting and recording, which has by far been the “smoothest” road.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a teacher! I teach middle school science in a suburban school outside Pittsburgh, and I’ve been doing it for 16 years now. As one can imagine it’s a mundane day-to-day life compared to living “the artist life”, yet I value the consistency, the quality pay, and the chance to gain my confidence by performing in front of people everyday. Besides, I have a wife and son at home I want and need to take care of, and teaching allows me to do that.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My consistency and reliablity. I work hard at my music projects to make them the best they can be, while maintaining solid relationships with my collaborators in the process. I pride myself on my prolific nature, and the amount of songs I’ve put out in the past half-decade speaks for itself.
