Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie McKinney.
Hi Mackenzie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into branding and marketing has been anything but linear, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! With over a decade of experience across diverse industries, I’ve had the chance to wear a lot of hats: starting as a graphic designer, producing TV news, serving as a Public Affairs Officer in the Air National Guard, and earning a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. I’ve also had the privilege of leading creative teams as a Creative Director at a marketing agency before taking the leap to open my own.
Each step along the way has added a layer of depth to my understanding of storytelling, strategy, and design. The marketing aspect of a business is directly linked to all parts, whether it’s a marketing campaign, a rebranding project, or a new logo, it all needs to fit perfectly to create a bigger picture.
What I love most about branding is the creative problem-solving. It’s not just about making something look good (though I love that part, too!); it’s about helping businesses find their voice and build something that feels authentic and lasting. Seeing clients thrive because of the work we do together? That’s what keeps me going.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most entrepreneurial origin stories, it’s been full of ups and downs. I always tell my clients who are starting out: it takes a lot of work, trial and error, and sometimes sheer stubbornness to keep going. The key is knowing your “why.” If you’re not confident in that, everything else will feel ten times harder.
For me, my “why” has evolved over the years of running my business, but one thing has stayed constant: I do this for myself and my kids. It’s not always easy, but every challenge is worth it when I can show my kids what’s possible when you believe in yourself and put in the effort. It’s something I can point to and say, “This is what you can achieve when you don’t give up.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in branding, research, and brand strategy for small to mid-size businesses. What sets me apart is the depth of knowledge and research I bring to every project. When we’re building your brand, it’s never about throwing random colors or fonts together, it’s about creating something intentional that tells your business story and connects with your ideal customers. For example, I’d never just slap pink into your color palette unless there’s a solid, research-backed reason why it fits your audience and goals.
I work closely with my clients to create a complete branding package that sets them up for long-term success, from a standout logo to a clear, cohesive brand strategy. I’m most proud of the impact my work has on my clients’ businesses. There’s nothing better than seeing their confidence grow as their brand comes to life and knowing that I’ve helped them build something that truly represents their vision.
When you work with me, you’re not just getting a logo or some pretty designs, you’re getting a partner who’s just as invested in your success as you are.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is creating something meaningful, both for my clients and my family. In my work, that means helping businesses tell their story in a way that connects, resonates, and drives real results. It’s about more than logos and colors; it’s about building something that feels authentic and has a lasting impact. It’s also important to set business owners up for success, and a professionally defined brand does that best for them.
On a personal level, it’s about showing my kids what’s possible. I want them to see that with passion, hard work, and a little courage, they can achieve incredible things. Everything I do, from running my business to navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, is rooted in that desire to be a good role model for them.
At the end of the day, it’s all about creating a legacy, whether that’s through the brands I help build or the values I pass on to my kids.
