Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz White
Hi Liz, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started face painting in April of 2023 after being placed on disability for being legally blind and disabled. Prior to that I spent over a decade trying to make it work with traditional jobs and just feeling like a failure when my health or mental health got in the way of doing the jobs I wanted to do. I felt lost and like I needed a purpose and I started practicing and fell in love with the art form. The fact that painting faces is an up close art that I can see to do was exactly what I needed. From there I have taken many courses, spent hours practicing, and done lots of events to hone my craft.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No. Sometimes I have ideas that fail and in those moments I feel like I need to quit, but I haven’t given up because it gives me so much more than it takes. I get so much joy seeing the smiling faces of the children I get to paint. The feeling of accomplishment when people recognize it as art instead of just a hobby is so fulfilling.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love to come up with new fun designs that are curated for an event and theme. I am know for quick, eye catching designs that surprise people! I have finally gotten to where I can envision a design in my head and paint it on the skin and it comes out the way I imagined and it’s so fun!! I am excited to see how much more I can improve my skills.
How do you think about happiness?
Bringing joy to the community makes me happy. I keep my prices low enough to include all income brackets because we have 5 children and there were many things we couldn’t do when they were growing up so I specifically try to make it affordable for those families. Sometimes I will even barter with kids… I’ve gotten a little stuffed keychain, small gemstones, and even buttons in exchange for face paints and it makes me so happy to be able to give those kids something special where someone else might turn them away. It makes me feel like I am giving back to the beautiful community that has been so good to me.
