Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Ray Koenig
Hi Lisa Ray, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Becoming an Artist was the furthest thing from mind as my career path as lead me to experience various things; from being behind a microphone to painting on a canvas my career has been a journey of constant reinvention and self-discovery. As a former radio broadcaster and freelance columnist, I was too busy to even consider the idea of painting. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit when I was gifted the time to truly explore my passion for painting. What started as a distraction from the chaos of the world quickly turned into a full-blown passion, as I refer to myself as a Pandemic Painter. With no formal training, I have developed a unique style which always features a groovy cat hidden within each piece that adds a touch of whimsy and charm to my colourful and textured creations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey as an artist has been a winding one filled with moments of doubt and fear. There have been times when I definitely questioned whether I was on the right path. And while the road hasn’t always been smooth, having felt rejection from galleries or art shows, I have learned that it is the bumps and detours that have shaped me into the artist I am today. Through it all I have remained true to my passion for creating, each new day brings a new inspiration. I am constantly learning and evolving as an artist eager to see where the road will take me next.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Painting is my thing, my love for acrylics and mixed media is matched only by my love for my furry companion Felix. He has become my muse and my trademark, as I hide him in each of my paintings as a playful nod to my mischievous cat. Through my art I hope to inspire others to find joy in the little things and never take themselves too seriously. I think I am most proud of the idea of being known as an Artist, oh and the fact that now one of my paintings is featured as a beer label at a local brewery, Daft Brewery in Kingston, Ontario Canada. That was truly unexpected. What sets me apart from others is my touch of humor and a splash of color where I hope to bring a smile to the faces of all who encounter my art, after all life is better with a little bit of whimsy and a hidden cat.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
As an artist success means constantly evolving and pushing myself to create something new and unique. I strive to challenge myself with each new piece and push the boundaries of my own creativity. When I am able to surprise myself and others with my art it lends to the feeling of success. For me the added success is creating art that resonates with people on a deeper level. Whether it’s through the use of vibrant colors intricate details or thought-provoking themes, I want my art to evoke emotions and spark conversations. When someone connects with my art and finds their own meaning in it that is true success for me.
