Today we’d like to introduce you to Leean Brown
Hi Leean, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey as a Christian began when I was 11 years old where I underwent the rite of confirmation before becoming an altar server in my local Anglican church. I continued serving my church for several years until I migrated from Jamaica to live in the United Kingdom to pursue a career in Teaching. While living in the United Kingdom I had the opportunity to serve in the same capacity and a Sunday School Teacher. Yes, I love the Lord and kingdom service. Faced with a financial deficit my dream of becoming a Primary School Teacher was cut short and I returned to Jamaica but was still desirous to become a teacher. In the attempt to complete my studies, I started working as a Cashier in a financial institution where I met my husband who encouraged me to pursue a career in accounting.
Before pursuing my teaching career, I studied Business in the United Kingdom, so I had formal qualifications to pursue a career in Accounting. However, as a lifelong learner, I decided to further my studies and enrolled in a Master of Business Administration program with the European Business School of Barcelona (ENEB) in 2019. In the same year I was hired to work as an Assistant Accountant for my current employer and have continued in the position to date.
My journey as a writer began many years ago, penning gospel songs and poems. In November 2021 after undergoing surgery my debut book ‘Forty & Free- A Journey of Faith & Healing’ was self-published on Amazon KDP. Recently rebranded and edited, the second edition will be available for purchase on Amazon and other online platforms for Christmas 2024.
Late 2023 into early 2024, I decided to invest in myself to become an authorprenuer by becoming a member of Crystal Daye’s Author CEO Academy. Due to personal challenges, I withdrew from the program but am still happy I joined. Thank you, Coach Crystal. The things I learned while being a part of the Author CEO program have really helped me and although I am still struggling to be consistently present for my tribe, I am working on becoming a better version of me. I am determined to rejoin the Academy very soon.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with any career path, being an authorprenuer has its fair share of challenges. My struggle as an authorprenuer is inconsistency. I am still learning to balance life and my writing career, but I am determined to see this through to the end.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been an Assistant Accountant for a waste management company for five years. Over the years I have built rapport with many clients and have assisted in the company’s growth.
I am most proud of myself for being the first in my family to attend university and also the first to achieve an MBA. It is my dream to one day own and operate my own Early Childhood Institution to be able to nurture young minds.
I believe being a woman of faith who serves as a Deaconess in church has helped me to be someone easy to talk to. This makes it easy for me to motivate others and help them make good decisions.
Outside of my professional work, I am an author, poet and songwriter who has a compilation of poems and gospel songs to be published and recorded in the coming year. Follow my social media handles for dates.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe we should way the pros and cons when it comes to risk taking. Coach Crystal taught us to clarify our why, meaning we should evaluate the reason we want to do something. Once you clarify your why it will give you a foundation on which to build whatever you are tasking the risk on.
