Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurent Chavannes.
Hi Laurent, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started playing guitar at 12 years old and began to learn my favorite songs from bands like blink-182, Pavement, All Time Low, and Bullet For My Valentine. After years of writing songs in my bedroom and longing to be in a band, I joined my first real group during college and continued to work on my songwriting ability.
I started my solo project, Moving in Slow in 2017 and have been producing, writing, and curating shows for the project ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road! But it has been worth it every step of the way. The main struggles I’ve dealt with have been overcoming my doubts to keep the dream alive and the project going. Things like comparing myself to others and feeling like my art isn’t good enough are the main struggles that I’ve worked on overcoming.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. I specialize in writing music and creative direction for my musical project Moving in Slow. I’m known for my relatable lyrical themes, unique vocal style, and catchy/uplifting melodies.
I’m proud of how far I’ve been able to take this project. I started out as a solo musician, writing songs on my guitar and uploading them onto SoundCloud. Now, I’ve been able to take the project to Seattle, form a band, play sold-out shows, open for national acts, and much more! It’s been a long journey to get here and I wouldn’t trade the experiences for anything.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
So many people to thank and give credit to!
My parents for getting me my first guitar – the catalyst for this whole journey
My cousin for teaching me when I first started
My brother for being a part of my very first jam sessions
My family for putting up with the noise I made while learning and writing my first songs
My friends from Miami/Boston that have taught me so much about being an artist and creative
My partner for her endless support
