Today we’d like to introduce you to Wojack the Jeweler.
Hi Wojack, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Early 1980 ies , I was a young Kid living in Tacoma Washington mimicking images from MTV and BETs music videos. I was also tuning in to a Seattle radio station K Fox with DJ Nasty NES Rodriguez’s nightly before it went off the air at 7pm . By 15 I was Building my own dj casket out of used record players and a mixer with a drum machine attached. I dj,ed my first house party for high school friends and rocked it . I began writing raps during high school classes instead of doing school work which made me very outspoken and highly confident when picking up the Mic to battle mcs across the city ! I was the leader of my crew known as the Deff City Rockers . We were a hip hop group/ gang during the years when gangs and drugs infested the city creating a highly violent culture that challenged us everywhere we went in the city . It was like being in Vietnam only smaller . Survival of the fittest was the mission .
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing has been smooth since I graduated High school . On my graduation night , my mother’s house was shot up by rival gangs who followed a few of my classmates to my party . That was my introduction in to the gang culture. However having an active mother and father involved in my life , I wasn’t able to fully integrate into the gangs ways that lead a lot of peers to prison or the grave. So I fully embraced HipHop as an escape route from the streets of Tacoma . By the time I was 20 , I was signing my first recording contract with Cold Rock Records in Seattle with soon to be distributed by NastyMix Records founded by Anthony Ray and Ed Locke . My group was known as Criminal Nation and I was the main character! It was HipHop and gun violence every weekend! Nothing smooth about that era .
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am and was mostly known for being a force of lyrical justice on the mic. Highly Political with a touch of battle rap lines . Today I am regrouping my energies and focusing on Custom Jewelry Creations with Copper and Crystals known as DeffJemz. I hand craft Copper crowns , Statement pieces, bracelets, rings , and evening wear ! I was selected by Flying Solo of New York as a designer to Watch for 2024 and I rocked it ! 22 models 3 designers and even I walked the runway 3 times with footage to prove it . It was an amazing experience for me . I focus on making my pieces unique and outstanding. My ritual for producing pieces is Sage , incense , high vibration music and solitude . I zone out and make magic happen .
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is Having your dreams fulfilled by your own creations . Being able to live a decent quality of life with out looking over your shoulders for karma !
Sleeping peacefully, eating healthy and enjoying each day at a time !
