Today we’d like to introduce you to Kika Claude
Hi Kika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always enjoyed reading, and that quickly turned into a passion for writing. But for a while, I was hesitant to write a blog because I thought nobody would actually read it. I received a lot of encouragement from my friends and family members before I finally launched my blog, and then again when I made it public.
Similarly, I hesitated about starting my travel curating business. I had been helping others create itineraries and trips for a while for free, so it’s nice now to finally have the opportunity to get paid to do something I enjoy doing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a travel blogger and curator is not a smooth road!
There’s always the pressure to constantly publish in order to stay relevant. And writer’s block is real! Sometimes I can write an article in 30 minutes, and other times it takes me years before I can transfer everything I want to convey from my mind to the page.
When I create an itinerary for someone, I want to ensure that the client is satisfied, so I communicate a lot with the service providers. Sometimes, it is a struggle coordinating everything in different time zones. But it is always a pleasure when it all comes together beautifully.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
There are many complex layers to who I am…
I have a background in both law and hospitality. I don’t know of many who have dabbled in both. While of course I prefer hospitality, I have retained some invaluable skills from my law school and post-law school days. I like to think that my blog is perhaps unique in how I present my ideas to the world.
I specialize in helping people with regular 9 to 5 jobs see the world.
What matters most to you? Why?
I have given a lot of thought to this question. My happiness is what matters the most to me. I have learned to remove myself from places and situations that do not contribute to my happiness and wellbeing. And I have given myself permission to keep pursuing whatever path makes me happier.
