Today we’d like to introduce you to Ke’nyzjah Ferebee
Hi Ke’nyzjah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started baking in the summer of 2020. I was out of school, and didn’t go many places due to quarantine. One night, I was bored and craving cake, so I decided to try baking one. I instantly fell in love with the art of baking. Then, I began to bake from scratch. I have always had a love for entrepreneurship, so as soon as I perfected my craft in baking, I started my business! In the beginning, family and friends were my only customers, but they really helped me start up my company. At first, I was just offering simple baked goods, but then I decided to try my hand at cake decorating. Once I felt comfortable enough with my skills, I began to promote my business to others(social media, vendor events, etc.) Today, I have a very large clientele, I have been featured in multiple newspapers and magazines, and I have made over 300 cakes!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a business has been far from smooth, but the hard parts are what makes it worth it. I have had several ups and downs, including getting no sleep for several nights in a row, rude customers, doubting myself/my future, and even crying my eyes out because I was frustrated with a cake design. However, despite the obstacles, I have always stayed motivated and I learned that hard work genuinely pays off!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a self-taught teen baker and cake artist! I specialize in custom cakes and cupcakes for all sorts of events, including birthdays, baby showers, weddings, and much more. I am one of very few young cake artists/entrepreneurs, so that definitely sets me apart from other bakers in my area! I am most proud of my appearance in the Virginian Pilot & Daily Press in the summer of 2022 (I was on the front cover!)
