Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Rodriguez
Hi Kayla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ll take you back to my high school days. Little did I know that the experiences I was about to have would ignite a lifelong passion. My journey to becoming a life coach began back in high school, although I had no idea at the time. During those years, I found myself in an abusive relationship, experiencing domestic violence. This difficult season of my life sparked a passion to help and support other woman.
A few years after high school, I decided I no longer wanted remain silent. I began sharing my story and hosting domestic violence awareness events, hoping to help others who were going through or had gone through similar experiences.
Fast forward to 2018, I hosted my first women’s retreat, which catered to women with curly hair. During these retreats, I conducted mindset sessions, and it was there that the coach in me was truly born. When COVID hit in 2020, I had to pause hosting retreats. While figuring out how to continue my work during the global pandemic, I decided to hire a business coach who helped me pivot to online coaching.
In 2022, I pursued certification as a life coach and attended the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC). That is the short version of my story and how I became a life coach.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My coaching journey hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced many struggles along the way. Initially, I didn’t know how to run a proper business or the immense amount of work it takes to sustain one. I invested way too much money in things that weren’t the best for my business. I onboarded help way too soon and my business wasn’t at the stage where it needed it yet. I was taught how to grow a social media presence and how to get clients on social media, but I learned the hard way that it takes way more than that to build a solid business that lasts.
These experiences were tough, but they were also invaluable learning opportunities. They taught me what works and what doesn’t. Now, I feel the most confident I’ve ever been in my business. My past experiences have provided me with the knowledge and resilience needed to create a sustainable and successful coaching practice.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
What has worked best for me is actively joining communities that align with what I do. For example, I regularly attend co-working sessions with other entrepreneurs and creatives. These sessions provide a collaborative environment where I can share ideas and learn from peers. I invest in being a part of mastermind communities. These groups offer invaluable support from experts and allow me to connect with like-minded women. This provides a strong support system and also connects me with other women I can relate to, learn from, and support others who share similar goals and challenges. Whenever I see a networking event that aligns with my field, I do my best to attend and make meaningful connections. It can be a little scary at first. but it’s worth it. I also believe in the power of collaboration, and working with other women has been a game-changer for me. These collaborations have led to new opportunities, valuable partnerships, and mutual growth.
