Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Krakowski-macy

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

I’ve loved taking photos since I was a little girl in Chicago. I would plan and take pictures with my sisters & friends at home, of local bands & local concerts. After moving to California, I then also gained a passion for landscape photography. All these experiences helped me develop my skills and brought me back to photographing people.

In 2009, my father’s unexpected departure fueled a deepening passion for capturing the essence of people through photography. This unfortunate experience will forever change the way I document & the significance of photography in my life. In 2023 after having my daughter, I had to make a very hard decision between staying at my full-time job at the hospital that I loved or taking my photography business full-time. After careful consideration, I decided to give it all into my passion for photography & spend these early years with our little girl! We welcomed a second baby girl three weeks ago!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

I’ve definitely faced a lot of frustrations on my photography journey, one of the first that comes to mind is at the beginning of it all when learning manual settings and trying to get my camera to do what I envisioned. As a perfectionist, I strive to provide the best experience for my clients, which often makes me very hard on myself. I also tend to experience imposter syndrome, but I try to recognize those feelings and redirect my focus towards finding inspiration instead. I believe there’s always room for growth and development, so I don’t let these challenges make me give up; instead, I aim to learn from them.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

I strive to be different from other photographers & don’t want to provide a “me too” experience. I pride myself on always wanting to do something different or unique at each session. I enjoy photographing all milestones of life including portraits, engagements, families, weddings to maternity! I photograph your love or your wedding day as it naturally unfolds, capturing genuine moments & creating timeless artful imagery. I don’t dictate or direct, instead observe to capture events as they occur. Connecting with your wedding on a personal level is what helps me bring out my best work. My photography style really depends on my clients, their story & how we vibe! I like to create memories, not just pretty pictures by capturing posed & unposed candid authentic shots. It’s all those little moments that will stay with you forever & the value of photography only increases with time. Your photos will be passed down through generations. I love how weddings are truly extraordinary to each couple.

I photograph timeless moments through artful, documentary and cinematic style imagery, inspired by the connections and love shared by couples and families. I’m based in Reno | Lake Tahoe, Nevada, I specialize in weddings, elopements and engagements, as well as maternity, family and lifestyle photography. My passion lies in celebrating the unique stories of my clients, preserving their precious memories through both digital and film photography.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?

I believe my most important trait for success is my ability to take initiative. The first step is often the hardest in many aspects of life, it has significantly influenced my achievements. Along with a strong support system that provides the extra motivation.
