Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliette Cochet
Hi Juliette , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I guess it is fair to say that my story started when I was young and I decided that I will become an actress. I thought it was a dream at first – for years, that was what I would call it – but now I am certain that it is and will become my reality.
My name is Juliette Cochet and I was born and raised in France before coming to New York 2 years ago to study acting. Since that, I have worked on more than 50 short and student films, I have act in multiple plays as well as helped putting on student made plays (entirely original stories), I am the Vice President of the Theatre Club of my school and have now received the price of “Best Actress” at the “Multi Dimension Independent Film Festival”, and much more…
Those are what I consider my accomplishment. But I have also been in a self-growth journey to depend my relationship with myself and with the world around me. I have been interested in understanding what I want and need, as well as just appreciating what surrounds me instead of taking it for granted.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I guess it has been smoother than for some, harder than for others. I won’t lie and say that my life until now has always been easy, because I don’t think anybody has ever had an easy life, but I won’t complain about the struggles because they have built the person I am now. And if I cannot accept them, forgive them and love them, then I can’t grow and move forward.
I don’t think that leaving your country by yourself, whatever the reason is, will ever be a smooth road. It definitely hasn’t for me. I have had to learn things the hard way, and most of the time alone. I have lost friends along the way, I have struggled with very unhealthy habits, I have struggled with my self-image and my self-esteem, I’ve dealt with the danger of being a woman in such a city, I’ve learned to live alone, to accept it and to embrace it: I wouldn’t wish that to anyone.
But, my god, how grateful I am! Knowing that I have face those struggles is only helping me for the future when I’ll doubt myself: I’ll remember that I’ve lived a similar situation, or worse, and I’ve survived.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Actress in films and plays. You can probably find me on iMDB where I am most known for “Mon Amour”, “I’m Afraid” and “PartyBoy”, three student films directed by my friend Kaisar Maxutov, that have won multiple festivals in the past year.
I have also written and directed my own short movie that I have acted on with Manuel Zopiyaxtle, an amazing actor! And it is probably one of my proudest accomplishment.
And as of today, I have just wrapped my finale film organized through my school, which I’m extremely excited about!
I think what sets me apart from others is mainly my discipline and my will to succeed. I am never going to compare my “talent” to anybody’s talent, I don’t think it matters nor that it is important. But I never stop working, never stop growing, never stop learning: which I believe are often taken for granted.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family. Spending time home with them and with my best friends makes me terribly and incredibly happy. They are what I love the most, they are my safe place, they are my motivation for greatness because I owe them that. And because I want to give them as much as they gave me.
My job, my passion, my “hobby” when I was 8 makes me profoundly happy: it is my first and main lover. I keep falling in love with Acting everytime I practice it. I don’t see myself doing anything else. Acting is the love of my life.
