Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Lumsden.
Josh, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a multidisciplinary artist who focuses on music. I started off writing classical music and had transitioned into producing more experimental pop/dance production with singing. All of my music is 100% self-produced, which was something I had learned to do when I was 15. I never really wanted to bother other people with my ideas so learning to do it myself seemed like the best route at the time. I’m grateful for it though as I can remain self-sufficient and have full creative control over my ideas. I focus now on creating genre-blending pop music that finds space in nightlife, parties, and pregames. :)
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road – I’m sure every artist can relate to the challenges that come with ensuring your ideas come into fruition. However… I do find that the end result is always satisfying enough to make the rest of the process worth it for sure. Also, the “music industry” and ways people discover new music changes rapidly – it can be overwhelming trying to keep up with latest trends and can sometimes be more time-consuming then the actual creation process of the art you’re wanting to promote.

I am a singer & producer based in NYC – my music is self-produced and I blend experimental pop, dance, and techno music. I learned to produce at 15 years old after originally writing classical music. Going from classical to techno rave style kind of sounds crazy but I find them to be equally as complex and evoking. I would say that I am most proud of the skillset I developed that allows me not to rely on other people to execute my vision – only because I would be bothering them too much!
