Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Swanson
Hi Jordan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After a life-changing heart surgery, I decided to move from Chicago to Los Angeles to pursue my career in music. I had always been a poet, and adored performing, but I needed to figure out how to put my words and melodies to music. I started taking guitar lessons, singing lessons, and teaching myself how to produce music on my own. Eventually, I began trying out different producers and meeting with other musicians, trying to form a band, but it wasn’t until I moved to Orange County that I found the right producer and bandmates. I tested out many different genres and musical styles, but it wasn’t until my move to Orange County that I also found my sound.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting vocal lessons scared me to death. Guitar lessons were easy; it’s an instrument that has rules and makes sense. But the voice, an instrument you can’t really see the inner workings of, there’s more trust to be built there. I’ve always had a pretty voice, but I never had very much control over it until I started the proper training. Listening back to recordings I made when I first started getting serious about music is so embarrassing. My voice seemed so small and unsure. I am just now starting to feel like a professional singer after years of work. My improvement has been exponential, but I still have a long way to go!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently, I am in a rock band called Catching Cupid. We just released our second single, and are working on releasing an EP this fall.
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined I’d be where I am today. I used to be a little girl putting on rocker wigs and filming myself lip syncing pop songs in my grandma’s basement, pretending I was in a music video. I am now doing that what that little girl in me always wanted to do, but for so long was too afraid to go after it. Little did I know, there was only one thing that was holding me back: a misdiagnosis. I lived 21 years with a hole in my heart, unable to breathe, chronic fainting, not even being able to even walk up a flight of stairs without my lungs hurting. The heart surgery drastically changed the trajectory of my life. I gained the confidence and energy to not take my life for granted, and took the time to rediscover myself. When I dived into myself, I found a musician and performer and singer.
I have worked tirelessly to even get where I am now in my music career, and I know in my heart, if I keep working hard, good things will continue to come.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is being up on a stage, hearing a crowd of people sing my songs back to me. It’s being able to hear a song I wrote playing in a tv show or movie. It’s when a fan gets a lyric of mine tattooed on themselves.
When any of these things happen, I will know I have succeeded in my life mission.
